As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the trajectory construction and analysis for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the systems through their entire lifetime from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Model and optimize Earth-to-orbit and suborbital trajectories for a range of launch vehicle configurations

  • Work closely with systems and design engineers to develop integrated design solutions and rapidly assess conceptual designs

  • Support trade studies relating to subsystem design, architecture, and operation

  • Identify launch windows for beyond-LEO missions given myriad constraints

  • Documentation and maintenance of analysis inputs, models, and results in report and databooks

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in trajectory optimization and mission design

  • Experience using trajectory analysis tools such as POST, OTIS, STK Astrogator, or Copernicus.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Experience in launch, spacecraft and reentry systems

  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills

  • Experience with high-lift devices, flow control, stability or control design

  • Experience using OTIS and MATLAB/Simulink

  • Experience with post-flight data analysis

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: * Solving complex structural analysis problems across all Blue Origin Business Units (New Shepard, New Glenn, Advanced Development Programs, Engines) by providing subject matter expertise to solve their most challenging problems in at least one of the following topics; stress analysis, fracture mechanics, loads analysis, vibration and shock analysis. * Interfacing with technical leaders across the company on a broad array of structural analysis topics to implement analysis methods, requirements, and policy * Development of software tools (Excel, Matlab, Python, etc) to support the detailed analysis and optimization of primary and secondary airframe structures * Identification of opportunities for analysis efficiency improvements * Mentoring designers and junior structural analysts in structural analysis best practices Qualifications: * B.S. degree in engineering and 8+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive; * High-judgement; ability to generate innovative solutions and understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate. * Demonstrated experience working on launch vehicles, aircraft, or automotive in several of the following areas: * Vehicle load path definition and strength analysis; * Fatigue or damage tolerance and crack growth (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc); * Dynamic analysis (coupled loads, random vibration, shock, explicit analysis) * Structural optimization using standard industry codes (Optistruct, HyperSizer, Nastran Sol 200, etc) * Stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc); * Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc). * Demonstrated expertise with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
