The Humanitarian Response Training Unit (HRTU) specializes in projects that strengthen the capacity of the humanitarian community to provide a more effective and coordinated response to the needs of affected populations. The HRTU implements training projects targeting multiple audiences, including government representatives and international and national NGOs, in the various aspects of humanitarian response and coordination.


The Training Officer (TO) assists the Director, Humanitarian Response Training Unit (HRTU), and the Senior Program Manager (SPM) in the implementation of training activities for all HRTU projects. The TO will work on a number of projects implemented by the unit to strengthen capacity of the international community to respond to humanitarian emergencies. The TO will implement training activities, serve as a subject-matter expert on training content, and support the SPM in development and enhancement of training materials.

  • Provide facilitation for workshops and provide expertise on topics related to the international humanitarian coordination system and NGO capacity strengthening for emergency response.

  • Support workshop facilitation teams across projects through capacity strengthening and guidance.

  • Assist with curriculum consultation and development processes.

  • Along with the project team, participate in reviews of training materials (including e-learning and workshop content) and presentations to ensure use of the most effective instructional methods.

  • Assist in the production of workshop reports.

  • Assist the project team and the subject-matter experts involved in on-site training and support for national NGO training participants.

  • Engage in a variety of cross-organizational planning and implementation meetings.

  • Assist in organizing, preparing for, and implementing capacity strengthening activities for the unit and for the organization.

  • In collaboration with the project team, ensure that project activities are being implemented effectively and according to project workplans.

  • Design and implement monitoring and evaluation activities in regard to the effectiveness of the trainings.

  • And other duties required to provide high-quality training events and materials for program beneficiaries.

Compliance & Ethics: Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps' and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.


  • Master's degree in a field of study involving international affairs, international education, or similar

  • 3-6 years of professional work experience

  • Familiarity with emergency response in humanitarian settings and international humanitarian coordination required

  • Past experience with field deployments, preferably in humanitarian emergencies

  • Experience in facilitating workshops and other training activities for adult professionals

  • Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse settings

  • Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to conduct training in French and/or Arabic desired
