DESCRIPTION

Those duties necessary to meet the minimum requirements of the position. Other duties may be assigned:

Indiana Fire I Instructor Required

The training officer will coordinate and/or provide the initial and in service training for security and emergency response personnel.

Developing appropriate curriculum to meet company, client and industry training standards for emergency response personnel in regards to their fire maintenance responsibilities. Coordinate and deliver training sessions in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations, and Allied Universal standards. Conduct training including, but not limited to Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 curriculum, hazardous material training up to the technician level, confined space training, and high angle and rope rescue training. Maintain the necessary training documentation to satisfy the company and client audit process. Conduct and/or facilitate the completion of required drills and exercises. The training officer will also be expected to coordinate and/or train emergency response personnel in regards to their fire maintenance responsibilities and other Fire Safety Services. This would include, but is not limited to fire extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, fire alarm box testing, etc.

Work in conjunction with operational partners to develop practical training programs at the client site in order to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory mandated training.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or experience required.   • High school diploma (or equivalent) required.

  • Candidate must possess a State of Indiana Fire Instructor 1 certification (or comparable certification from another state).

  • Candidate must possess training experience in the specific areas of instruction including subject matter requirements for the Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certifications, Hazardous material training up to the Technician level, Confined space training, and High angle and rope rescue training.

  • Candidate must meet US Nuclear Regulatory Commission 37.25 Background Investigation requirements.

  • Energetic and focused personality with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments and effectively manage deadlines.

  • This position requires excellent attendance and punctuality. Incumbents must commit to being on time, must be able to work in a very independent environment, and ensure all responsibilities are completed on time.

  • Must be highly proficient and fully functional in all Microsoft Office applications and be able to effectively utilize all available office management technology.

  • Professional, articulate and able to use good independent judgment and discretion. Must have proven ability to maintain correspondence, discussions and materials in strictest confidence. Must be able to work overtime as needed.

  • Current state driver's license, clean driving record, minimum level of insurance as required by Company policy, and ability to safely operate a vehicle required.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization, including with clients, while functioning as a team player required. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


  • Ability to pass an NFPA Physical Exam

  • While performing the duties of this job, is frequently required to stand, sit, talk and hear (communicate verbally in person and via regular telephone equipment) and must be able to read computer screens, correspondence and reports in English.

  • The employee must constantly walk, stand, reach with both hands and arms, and must be able to drive a vehicle. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May be required to climb stairs on an intermittent basis at client sites.

  • The employee may be subject to adverse conditions such as rain, cold or heat for short periods of time.

  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

  • Must be able to focus and multi-task in a busy environment, with the ability to successfully handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. Includes being able to effectively manage multiple employees with diverse personalities and engage them to perform at optimum levels.

  • Must be able to clearly speak, read and write English.

Job Description Allied Universal Services is currently searching for a Professional Security Shift Captain in Burns Harbor, Indiana. The Security Shift Captain will be responsible for the Contractor Emergency Response Officers on a shift basis. The Captain will be responsible for the response and supervision of all hazardous material incidents as well as rescue situations involving but not limited to confined space incidents, aerial or high angle incidents, water related incidents, vehicle entrapment, and equipment entrapment. The Captain will be responsible for the response and supervision of all fire prevention and suppression activities of whatever kind or nature relating to structures, buildings, and other assets located on the plant property. The Captain will be expected to acquire a working knowledge of the fire detection, suppression, and transmission systems on the plant property including system operation, system deactivation, system support activities, and system restoration. Additional responsibilities of the Security Shift Captain position include, but are not limited to, the following: * Supervision of the Contractor security personnel and the plant security program consisting of personnel pass clearance and issuance * Mobile and foot patrol * Access control of employee and non-employee personnel and vehicles entering and exiting the plant * Control of material being brought onto and removed from the property * Enforcement of the Plant Employee and Non-Employee Rules and Regulations * Enforcement of the Plant Traffic Safety Program * Enforcement of the Homeland Security Facility Security Plan * Investigation of vehicle accidents, property thefts, loss related incidents and other abnormal or unusual conditions * Completion of all accident and security related reports and logs and any other reasonable related security tasks * Will be responsible for the Contractor Emergency Response Officers on a shift basis * Will be responsible for the response and supervision of all hazardous material incidents as well as rescue situations involving but not limited to confined space incidents, aerial or high angle incidents, water related incidents, vehicle entrapment, and equipment entrapment * Will be responsible for the response and supervision of all fire prevention and suppression activities of whatever kind or nature relating to structures, buildings, and other assets located on the plant property * Will be expected to acquire a working knowledge of the fire detection, suppression, and transmission systems on the plant property including system operation, system deactivation, system support activities, and system restoration * Will be responsible for the supervision of the Emergency Response Officers in regards to the completion of various fire maintenance duties. These duties will include but not be limited to; the pickup, refilling, servicing, delivery and required testing of plant fire extinguishers; inspection and recharging of C02 cartridges used in Ansul fire extinguishers; fire alarm system testing; hydrant testing; fire department connection inspections; hose reel inspections and any other reasonable fire maintenance related tasks. * Will serve as the liaison with outside emergency response agencies as well as with local, state or federal regulatory agencies, per the request of the appropriate ArcelorMittal representative.Qualified candidates for the Shift Captain position will meet the minimum requirements, as described below: * * High school diploma or equivalent required. * For driving positions, qualified applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver's license for the state in which applying. All applicants must be eligible to meet our company driving standards. * As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test. * As a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all required License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty. * Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills. * Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites. * Current certification as Firefighter II (State of Indiana), * Certification at the Hazmat Operations Level, and qualified in confined space and high angle rescue operations. * Must have verifiable training in incident command and/or the National Incident Command System (N.I.M.S.). * Must be able to successfully pass the required screening process to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card. * If not already certified in some aspect of emergency medical care, the Captain will be expected to take such training to at least the level of a First Responder. * Individuals must be able to pass a State level fit test. * Physical and Mental Functions: * Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet) * Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift * Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties * Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds * Run as needed * Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks * Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination * Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat; * Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments Closing Allied Universal provides unparalleled service, systems and solutions to the people and business of our communities, and is North America's leading security services provider.
