Brief Description:

The Technical Writer/Knowledge Management position is primarily responsible for designing a new knowledge management solution and creating the knowledge assets that are fully searchable with keywords. These resources should be technically written, easy for a learner to understand, and consistently formatted in a web authoring documentation tool (using HTML, CSS) so they are easily searchable (appropriately cataloged with META DATA). This position also provides consultation through the assessment, evaluation, and development of both existing and new training programs and materials.

Specific job duties:

  • Researches, authoring, publishing, and maintenance of Process and other related documents in compliance with established content standards using various authoring tools (KMS, MS Word, Dreamweaver, Flare, etc.).

  • Works closely with various departments and related groups, Business Owners and SMEs to document procedures and related content, including the translation of business needs into user instructions and reference content.

  • Provides support on a variety of projects including systemic improvements/enhancements to existing documentation flow and storage.

  • Maintains overall documentation records including creation, revisions, reviews and archival.

  • Independently manage or participate in several projects in support of KMS initiatives and Operations Learning goals.

  • Collaborates and cross-trains with Learning Development and Instructional Design Specialists to support Operations Learning

  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with internal clients through needs assessments and discussions to proactively identify issues that impact training needs from both a competency and knowledge base.]

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Project Management of project content updates, working with SMEs to approve updates.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, training or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • 3-5 years relevant experience or Master's degree; operations or business environment and 3-5 years' experience in applications training.

  • Proven ability to manage web content and use web building software such as Dreamweaver, Madcap Flare, HTML/CSS, Search Appliance and Metedata.

  • Experience in conducting needs analysis and operations application functionality.

  • Proven ability to identify customized strategies and tactics for successful resource management and be able to handle multiple projects at once.

  • Understanding of adult learning techniques.

  • Excellent organization skills, problem solving and thinking analytically.

  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
