Job Description Summary

This position will provide statewide leadership in staff training and education for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement in-depth training on curricula for adult and youth audiences, participant recruitment techniques, educational approaches, and other topics as needed.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of curricula and implement updates as needed.

  • Ensure NIFA-required continuous training opportunities for professional development of EFNEP Staff.

  • Conduct virtual weekly or monthly "check-ins" to ensure staff have all support and resources required to complete their jobs.

  • Conduct site reviews to ensure teaching strategies and program evaluations are appropriately and consistently implemented.

  • Supervise county level training staff.

  • Develop procedures for curriculum use to ensure program fidelity.

  • Participate in department, university, state, and national programmatic work groups and committees.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and conduct training for county staff and partners as needed.

  • Disseminate extension and research scholarship through journals, digital products, and conference presentations and seek recognition of excellence in programming.

  • Provide service within professional organizations and on committees within the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Auburn University.

  • Travel within the state and the continental US, with some overnight stays, to implement programming, assist/educate/monitor, and provide support to EFNEP.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned master's degree from an accredited institution in public health/community health, nutrition/dietetics, education, adult education, exercise science, workforce development, family & consumer sciences, or related field.

The Extension Specialist is a twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty position. If hired with a master's degree, the incumbent will be expected to complete a doctoral degree within the initial eight-year employment period. As part of the Auburn University benefits package, the University offers tuition remission for full-time employees, up to 15 credit hours per year, at Auburn University-affiliated institutions. The position offers a three-tiered structure for advancement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with limited resource audiences.

  • Experience training adult learners.

  • Demonstrated success and proficiency working with diverse teams and audiences.

  • Experience writing for low literacy audiences.

  • Knowledge of adult learning styles and adult education theories.

  • Experience working with community-based programs such as SNAP-Ed and EFNEP.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Minimum Starting Salary

$59,427 for a Master's Degree

$71,427 for Ph.D.

Salary increases for years of relevant, professional work experience.
