What You Will Do:
This position is responsible for the oversight of the training program for the Valley Health Public Safety personnel. This individual will ensure all assigned Public Safety staff receive timely training in an effort to provide consistent Public Safety services to all our Valley Health entities. They will also be the gatekeeper for all certifications and recertification's needed by the uniformed Public Safety personnel. This position will also be requested to obtain certain Public Safety training certifications such as ASP, OC foam, Handcuff, Taser, Aggression Management instructor certifications as well as others that are needed to support the operations of the department. The position has or obtains a general understanding of hospital safety and fire safety. This position, based on the needs of the department, may on occasion need to provide uniformed services to one of our hospitals.
What You Will Bring:
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
College degree preferred
Courses from an accredited school in law enforcement, safety, or related field preferred
Two years in a supervisory level preferably in Public Safety or law enforcement preferred
Experience
Two years of healthcare Public Safety experience or four years of Public Safety or law enforcement experience
Two years prior supervisory experience with the ability to motivate a team
Prior law enforcement experience preferred
Prior college experience preferred
Prior military experience preferred
Certification & Licensures
Valid driver's license required
American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation required
International Association for Healthcare Public Safety and Safety Basic Exam within 1 year required
ASP baton, Handcuff, OC Foam Spray and aggression management training within 90 days required
May be required to obtain instructor certification in aggression management, ASP baton, Handcuff OC Foam Spray
Qualifications
Knowledge of Public Safety systems, procedures, enforcement codes preferred.
Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served.
Successful completion of a 90-day training period required.
Good PR, and written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to use common sense and think quickly on feet required
Good Problem solving and decision making skill required
Ability to interact with individual with special needs, varying backgrounds, ethnicity, and under stress required
Team building qualities required
