Team members will be an integral part of designing, building and maintaining biking and hiking trails that will span over 50 miles and nearly 3,000 vertical feet. With three consecutive years of expansion and more to come, the Bike and Hike features of Aspen/Snowmass will provide growth and experience to the enthusiast looking to make their passion a full time job.

Summary

The Trails Supervisor will assist the manager with oversight of Trails crew and operators/contractor crew. The supervisor will focus on efficiencies amongst staff, Trail maintenance standards, taking the lead during events and assisting with administrative duties and employee relations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervise the crew in daily maintenance of on-mountain trails including raking, shoveling, rock picking, watering, brushing and mowing, timber work project, revegetation, drainage and construction of new trail, etc.

  • Inspect trails/features/bridges and analyze weather daily; close as needed for safety

  • Interact with Summer Patrol on a daily basis to discuss any safety issues, report guest injuries and assist at accident scene; complete paperwork as needed

  • Assist with design and creativity of trails using Google Sketch Up/GPS/maps (as required)

  • Oversee preparation for and implementation of new bridges and new trails and follow any regulation or specification from the Forest Service

  • Communicate with event staff/contractors during special trail construction/events on trails with regards to build, set up, staffing during event, maintenance and break down

  • Operate any equipment, tools, chainsaw, brush saw and four wheeler/side by side

  • Ensure log books are completed neatly, accurately and in a timely manner

  • Promote trails etiquette and guest relations within on-mountain trails and with staff

  • Assist with on the job training for Trails crew

  • Monitor performance of staff and provide timely feedback

  • Communicate needs and issues with other departments including Snowmaking, Summer Trails, Guest Services, Lift Ops and Vehicle Shop

  • Provide clear and concise communication with staff when assigning tasks and projects

  • Communicate with contractors on a daily basis

  • Work with manager on scheduling, timekeeping, discipline and documentation and employee reviews

  • Test features (as required)

  • Complete training and obtain ASC ATV and chainsaw license certification

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Prior experience in a Trails department required, preferably as lead

  • Comfortable working on mountain terrain including steep grades

  • Basic computer skills Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)

  • Valid, current unrestricted Driver's License

  • Attend fire prevention training (as required)

  • Attend forklift and ATV training (as required)

  • Attend first aid training (as required)

  • Attend chain saw safety class (as required)

  • Working knowledge of bike & hiking trail layout/design and bike event experience (as required)

  • Proficient at Google Sketch Up/GPS and map (as required)

  • Advanced equipment operator experience in Trails department preferred

  • Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR preferred

The employee is occasionally required to sit.

A physical assessment (Work Ready) is required for certain positions.

Strong mountain biking skills with ability to transport materials uphill and downhill

is required for certain positions.
