Position Summary
Amerit Fleet Solutions, one of the leading fleet maintenance companies in the US, is looking to hire a skilled Trailer Mechanic/Technician in Middletown, CT! The Trailer Mechanic/Technician will be responsible for the timely repair and maintenance of heavy duty diesel fleet trailers. Comprehension of air brakes, wheel seals, door panels, floor boards, side panels, electrical wiring and DOT inspections are needed when conducting PMs and minor repairs on company fleet vehicles. Computer competency is needed as well to manage part purchasing and work orders.

What the Trailer Mechanic/Technician role looks like:
Prepare vehicle records and report both manually and on a computer
Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to vehicles
Inspect and perform work on the under parts of vehicles
Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare required safety documentation
What our ideal candidate looks like: At least 3 years' experience as an Diesel Mechanic/Technician performing vehicle repair and maintenance or must possess auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school
Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operating properly
Excellent communication skills and proficient computer skills
Must have own tools
Must have valid driver's license

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare vehicle records and report both manually and on a computer
Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation required
Inspect and perform work on the under parts of vehicles
Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
Move parts to and from the job site and remove or install these parts on vehicle
Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
Perform other duties as required
Key Competencies and Minimum Education
Must have at least 3 years' experience performing vehicle and trailer maintenance.
Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operating properly
Must be able to enter and exit the driver's compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normally available footholds and handholds
Must provide own hand tools Perform DOT inspections Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
Basic computer skills Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
Must be able to work with or around chemicals, oils, greases or other irritants
Working Conditions
Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise.
Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases or other irritants
Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
Ability to move and position objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl to repair vehicles
Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
