Job Overview:

Inspects, services and repairs all over-the-road trailers, including van trailers and reefer trailers. Performs daily yard check of trailers.


  • High school Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Technical or diesel training or one year experience; prefer trailer and/or truck mechanic experience

  • Prefer welding experience

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test

  • No conviction of felonies, serious crimes, or have charges pending. However, a conviction is not an automatic disqualification of employment.

  • Have valid driver's license

  • Certified brake inspector.

  • Certified Federal inspector.

  • Certified fork lift operator.

  • Possess necessary mechanic's tools.

  • Ability to work independently; initiative; self-starter.

  • Ability to plan and organize workload; flexibility to handle pressure and work with interruptions and meet deadlines; attention to detail

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

  • Willingness to learn and accept responsibility.

  • Ability to successfully pass drug test and physical; no convictions of felonies or serious crimes.

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.


  • Performs pre-trip inspections of van trailers and reefer trailers, including tires.

  • Conducts air pressure, light checks on all units.

  • Services and repairs all defects discovered during inspection prior to dispatch, including tires.

  • Makes all emergency repairs on an as needed basis.

  • Applies equipment markings to trailers.

  • Drives equipment from yard to shop facility and back.

  • Maintains required DOT documentation.

  • Documents all work, time and charge parts in TMT maintenance software.

  • Keeps work area clean and free of safety hazards; handles all job duties according to Company's safety procedures.

  • Works in all areas of the shop.

  • Demonstrates support to the Epes Transport System, LLC Quality Management System and its objectives, as applicable.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

What you'll do on a typical day: * Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on trailing equipment, in compliance with the manufacturers' and company schedules * Access any area of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of trailers * Repair or rebuild all or part of equipment systems * Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations, as required * Maintain proficiency on equipment and technologies that enhance our productivity What you need to succeed at XPO: At a minimum, you'll need: * 1 year of experience in general trailer repair * Ability to perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation * Basic computer skills * Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends It'd be great if you also have: * Previous or current ASE certifications * Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) This job requires the ability to: * Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights up to 50 lbs. frequently and more than 75 lbs. occasionally * Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather * Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel Be part of something big.
