The essential duties for this job include:

Traffic Systems Technician I:

  • Assists in installing, maintaining, modifying, adjusting, testing, troubleshooting, inspecting and repair of electronic traffic control, communication, traffic data collection, and illumination systems.

  • Assists in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining hardware and software pertaining to traffic systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems or the Statewide Traffic Analysis and Reporting System. Driving a state vehicle is required to perform these duties.

  • Assists in maintaining stock and equipment to ensure necessary tools, products and materials are available for scheduled projects.

  • Assists in operating, maintaining and servicing equipment such as bucket trucks, drilling and pole setting rigs, concrete saws, trenching machines, cable locating instruments, insulation testers and 18-wheel calibration truck. Driving is required to perform these duties.

  • Learns to identify, troubleshoot, problem solve and identify possible new site characteristics.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Education

This job requires the following:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies

Work Experience

Traffic Systems Technician I:

  • 2 years in Construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic mgmt, transportation engineering, design, traffic systems maintenance

Traffic Systems Technician II:

  • 3 years in Construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic mgmt, transportation engineering, design, traffic systems maintenance

(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

No supervisory experience required.

Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:

  • A Valid Driver License At Time Of Application

  • Commercial Driver Certificate

  • Safety Impact Certificate

  • Safety Impact and Commercial Driver certifications are not required at the time of application. The Safety Impact and Commercial Driver certifications will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

Other Conditions:

  • This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crew Member) and will be subject to random drug testing.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have or obtain within up to 120 calendar days from date of employment a Commercial Driver License Class A. Applicant pays initial cost in obtaining the required license.

  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.

  • Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

  • Required to work during emergency situations.

  • Required to work weekends and holidays.

  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

This person will be an experienced technician who will service and repair our rental fleet of air compressors and associated accessories; or rental generators and associated accessories ranging from 30kw up to 2mw.
