Traffic Signal Technician III (61034509)

Job Responsibilities

Conduct annual inspections of traffic signals and flashers in District 3 on a yearly rotation. Remove all vegetation, obstructions, and pests in and around signal cabinets and pole locations using weed control and pesticides.

Clean and vacuum cabinets, change monitors, and make sure all documents required are in cabinet drawers. Update all information in the Transportation Engineering Asset Management System (TEAMS) program of traffic signals and flashers using a computer or iPad. Conducts electrical installations and repairs in all SCDOT facilities in District 3.

Responsible for completing locate requests by utility companies and contractors for signal wiring at locations requested. Works 40 hour week, scheduled night work, emergency work at nights, weekends and holidays, and is part of the 24/7 on-call rotation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.

May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
