Traffic Signal Technician II

Job Summary The City of Greenville seeks a highly motivated individual to fill the Traffic Signal Technician II position in our Engineering Department. Under direct supervision, this position performs skilled work in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals and other electrical traffic control devices.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $56,201.60 - $71,656.00, depending on qualifications Full Salary Range: $56,201.60 - $87,089.60 FSLA Exemption Status: Non-exempt Examples of Duties Performs inspections and preventive maintenance work on traffic signals by replacing defective equipment, including poles and other electrical systems, as necessary; Tests electrical and electronic equipment, including traffic signal heads, streetlights, controllers, auxiliary equipment, and other systems to ensure they operate as intended; Ensures electrical compatibility and safety of components; Performs adjustments or repairs to solve problems and documents repairs and changes; Calls in a contractor when needed, verifies that the job has been performed according to plans and specifications, and completes the final inspection of job; Monitors and provides oversight to lower-level traffic signal techs during routine maintenance and emergency field tasks; Provides guidance, support, and training to lower-level techs for entry-level duties and assists crews as needed; Ensures that all new level I employees can properly maintain and repair small problems in cabinets and safely operate the bucket truck; Determines the location of underground utilities (ULOCO's), both traffic signal cable and traffic fiber cable; Utilizes a laptop for various traffic signal software applications; Makes on-site visits to determine if marking is needed, and marks the location if necessary; Records data into a monthly spreadsheet and submits to the supervisor; Performs related tasks by making repairs to traffic signals; Prepares lists of materials needed; Makes detailed daily work reports and trouble tickets by documenting corrective actions; Serves as on-call support for traffic-related issues such as signals, signs, barricades, etc.; Assists other departments and performs other job-related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED supplemented by college coursework in electronics, engineering, a closely related field or by completion of electronic courses (an Associate's degree in electronic engineering preferred); and Two or more years experience in traffic control device work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: planning of signalized and device-controlled intersections. installation, repair, and maintenance of sensitive and complex electromagnetic and electronic signaling devices. the Uniform Traffic Control Devices manual.

NCDOT Signal Design Manual, Traffic Signal Special Provisions and Standard Drawings. locations of streets and intersections in the City. signs and markings fabrication, installation, and repair. principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Skill in: giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. talking to others to convey information effectively. identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. managing one's own time and the time of others.

Special Requirements Must possess a valid Class B North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL). International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I & II Certifications (required within six months of hire).
