General Summary
Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, the Traffic and Parking Control Attendant works with all Community members and visitors during events on campus to safely direct moving traffic and to direct cars into appropriate parking areas.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and directs vehicle and foot traffic for academy events, to ensure safe access to parking areas;
Provides parking assistance and information to employees, students, and visitors, including responding to inquiries and providing directions to campus locations
Perform traffic control duties such as setting up cones or placing temporary signs in a specific area.
Responds to questions and concerns from visitors, students, employees and the general public;
May operate a motor vehicle to patrol, transport employees, students, visitors, or others as necessary;
Works closely with Safety & Security Officers to ensure effective coordination of service efforts through two-way radio communication
Comply with all Deerfield policies and procedures and those of the Department of Campus Safety & Security
Job Specifications
Completion of 12 grade or equivalent
1-3 years' experience in a customer service role
Working knowledge and previous experience parking and directing vehicles
Strong customer service acumen with the ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues
Possess a valid driver's license
Ability to observe, assess, and record hazardous conditions in parking areas/structures.
Good verbal and written communication skills
Mentally capable of performing multiple tasks under stressful situations
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community
Physical Demands
Ability to spend long periods of time on feet
Ability to walk 2-5 miles per shift around the campus
Ability to frequently balance, stoop, crouch, reach, write and grasp
Ability to occasionally kneel, crawl, push and pull
Ability to constantly hear other people talking on the radio, telephone and with community members
Working Conditions
Worker is frequently subject to outside environmental conditions including extreme cold (temperatures below 32°) and extreme heat (temperatures above 100°)
Worker is frequently subject to noise, sufficient to cause worker to shout
Worker is frequently subject to hazards and atmospheric conditions including moving vehicles, moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors and gases
