This position is responsible for assisting in the deployment, operation, and maintenance of the traffic signal systems and related communications network and overseeing the construction, operations and/or maintenance of traffic signal systems in accordance with the drawings, contract specifications, and operation/maintenance procedures prepared by City staff and/or consulting engineer. This position will also complete preparation and production of traffic signs. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

Designs Traffic signs in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) using Traffic sign software
Collects accurate sign inventory data, makes associated computer entries of traffic data, and completes daily service requests
Develops a plan for implementation, operation, and maintenance of a traffic signal control system
Assists in inspection of traffic signal construction projects in the city
Responds to inquires/complaints regarding traffic control, such as, signal timing, signs and pavement marking needs, and speed zones as directed by the traffic supervisor
Responsible for overseeing construction projects and contractual services (i.e., paperwork and payments)
Responsible for the prompt reporting of construction problems and irregularities to the Traffic Engineer and assisting in the correction of the irregularities
Completes accurate records, daily work reports, bi-weekly progress reports, monthly estimates, and changes in contracts for all current and future projects
Responsible for having a thorough knowledge of the drawings and specifications for assigned projects, including proper interpretation of their intent
Supports operations and maintenance of traffic signal control and communications systems (i.e., wireless radios, fiber, cellular, portable message boards)
Coordinates routine maintenance inspection, emergency maintenance activities, preventative maintenance, signal timer programming, traffic operations monitoring, work zones, and special events to ensure compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and with public safety requirements
Performs aerial signal work by operating 40ft and 50ft bucket truck
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Subject to after-hours and weekend callouts.
Subject to on call rotation schedule
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
At least four years' experience working in a Traffic and Transportation or related department
Valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License
IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level II Certification
Preferred Licenses or Certifications
Knowledge of:
Broad spectrum of signal construction types, operation/maintenance techniques, signal control equipment and thorough working knowledge of drawings and specifications for traffic signal systems
Fiber optic outside plant design, construction techniques, maintenance, and operations
Data communications technologies including ATM and Ethernet for both consolidated and parallel voice, video, and data networks
Wireless Ethernet technologies
Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Plans and specifications for traffic control devices, traffic data collection, equipment, and software
Knowledge of materials and specifications of traffic signal and construction drawings and must be able to interpret
Skill in:
Ability to:
Work with multiple organizations to pursue long-term objectives and projects
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Diagnose and trouble-shoot traffic signal equipment, read and interpret blueprints and diagrams, set and retrieve count machines, read and interpret construction plans and technical reference manuals.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies and contractors as well as internal departments and co-workers.
Manage both maintenance contractors and personal workload
Lead crews in proper maintenance and troubleshooting procedures of signalized traffic control devices
Thorough understanding of proper traffic control setup and procedures

This position requires constant walking, sitting, carrying, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing heights, balancing, reaching, twisting, foot controls, fine dexterity and awareness of surroundings using acute senses of vision, hearing and verbal communication.
Required to work at extreme heights for periods of times.
