Traffic Maintenance Worker, Signing & Striping Section - Street Transportation Department

The Streets Transportation Department is hiring Traffic Maintenance Workers for the Signing and Striping Section. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining traffic signs, erecting meter posts, painting and maintaining crosswalks and other traffic control markings, and overseeing semiskilled workers.

SALARY

Pay Range: $21.02 to $32.62 per hour.

Hiring Range: $21.02 to $26.83 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• One year of experience in traffic sign installation and maintenance, or in painting traffic control markings.

• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

• Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.

• Requires working for prolonged periods standing in one location, and/or walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

• Moving heavy objects of 50 lbs. or more over long distances may be required.

• Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.

• These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

• In addition, individuals may be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam and possess the appropriate commercial driver's license (C.D.L.).

• Employees in C.D.L. positions will be subject to unannouced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

• Experience working in traffic construction.

• Experience working on City streets near vehicular traffic.
