Job Duties
VDOT's Lynchburg Traffic Engineering section is seeking a highly qualified Traffic Engineer to join their dynamic team! As the qualified candidate, you will:
Provide technical advice, guidance and training regarding assigned engineering program areas.
Conduct traffic engineering studies and prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations based on engineering determinations.
Provide engineering support and consultation related to engineering program area.
Effectively manage assigned projects to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to design plans for traffic control devices, incorporating traffic engineering requirements into roadway plans and making recommendations for plan changes.
Ability to conduct traffic engineering studies involving traffic operations, traffic control devices, and roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity issues.
Ability to collect and analyze traffic related data.
Considerable experience gathering data, developing recommendations and making presentations.
Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices and standards.
Experience writing and presenting technical reports / solutions to diverse audience / stakeholders.
Organizational and time management skills necessary to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Skill in the use of computers and web-based software applications to include Microsoft 365.
Skilled in the use of computers and software applications to include traffic engineering software (such as Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, CORSIM, VISSIM, SIDRA, etc.) and CADD design software (such as MicroStation, GuideSIGN, etc.)
