Fredericksburg Traffic and Engineering is seeking an experienced individual to provide technical support to a maintenance work unit. The selected applicant will perform asset life cycle replacement planning for traffic control devices (signs, pavement marking, sign and roadway lighting, and traffic signals). Will perform maintenance contract planning, development and monitoring; equipment utilization and planning; and investigate and respond to customer concerns and complaints.
Monitor and compare maintenance cost estimates versus expenditures; conduct analysis and expenditure projections; capture, track and report work accomplishments; and utilize data to establish future needs. The position will also develop and maintain an asset inventory data base and coordinate with procurement to develop and oversee the monitoring of departmental related contracts.
This position will be headquartered at our Thornburg facility in Spotsylvania County.

Considerable knowledge of traffic control device specifications, standards, and policies; of engineering and construction technology to effectively support maintenance and operation programs; of federal and state highway and transportation rules, regulations, and policies; of MUTCD, Road and Bridge Standards; and of business principles and practices related to inventory and accounting systems. Demonstrated leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications. Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to analyze needs and problems, identify solutions, project consequences and implement recommendations; to develop and monitor budgets, service contracts and procurement activities; and read roadway and traffic control device construction plans.
Experience in transportation systems applying engineering principles, practices, and procedures. Contract Monitoring and Administration certification and experience. Valid driver's license required.
High School Diploma or GED. Experience interpreting and applying procurement policies, procedures, and guidelines preferred. VDOT Pavement Marking Inspector Certification; Work Zone Safety Certification and the ability to read traffic signal plans preferred.
