Job Summary:

Prepares and reports on traffic and transit conditions. Will also be trained to produce all markets in the Dallas hub.


  • Focuses on providing timely and useful information to commuters planning their drives to and from work, as well as to those already en route by maintaining contact with external sources of information or by observing traffic from air or land vehicle.

  • Announces the latest accidents and traffic delays.

  • Reads traffic reports, commercials and public service messages to listeners on the radio from a variety of in-take sources; canvasses local, state and national traffic news to determine significance and prioritization.

  • Identifies, researches, and creates copy regarding traffic to feature during on-air shift; finalizes content using digital audio editing software.

  • Manages gathered information: keeps all the facts straight, makes sure details are accurate and current and tracks any changes.

  • In designated Hub stations, gathers and provides coverage for stations in multiple cities/locations.

  • Maintains crucial deadlines in order to provide traffic updates in a timely fashion.

  • May be required to report live on location from helicopters, to paint a visual picture (bird's eye view) by looking out of helicopter window.

  • May prepare written content, visual images, audio material and video footage for websites, blogs or other social-media platforms.

  • May require flexibility in work schedules.

  • May be embedded in a TV station.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, social networking platforms and audio production software

  • Knowledgeable with local coverage area geography and roadways, mass transit and traffic patterns

  • Pleasant, charismatic and well-controlled voice; excellent pronunciation

  • Adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, "newsroom-like" collaborative environment

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; proficient in grammar

  • Strong attention to detail, following up until issues are resolved

  • Ability to plan and organize, set priorities and multi task in a fast-paced environment

  • Understanding of police scanners a plus

  • May require other language proficiency, e.g., Spanish

Work Experience

  • 1+ years' experience in on-air radio experience


  • High School Diploma

Your Opportunity As Senior Traffic / ITS Engineer, you will be responsible to provide leadership on the pursuit, planning and development of traffic engineering projects. You will be responsible for managing projects including the preparation of designs and ensuring the development and delivery of traffic control plans, signing/pavement markings, traffic signal plans, lighting designs, and/or ITS designs for various highway and roadway traffic projects. You will coordinate with and provide support to the transportation and community development groups, and on traffic engineering projects throughout Texas. Your Key Responsibilities * Actively identify project pursuit opportunities, manage client relationships, develop new clients, and lead or assist in the preparation of proposals to win those pursuits * Perform as project manager, and/or technical specialist on traffic engineering projects, responsible for invoicing, managing, and monitoring financial performance of project budgets * Prepare, review and seal traffic control plans, signing/pavement markings, traffic signal plans, lighting designs, and/or ITS designs for various highway and roadway traffic projects * Prepare memorandums and reports for traffic studies and research * Present technical reports at public and agency meetings * Supervise the work of other engineers * Review work for accuracy and coordinates with others to ensure quality assurance and quality control for all final products Your Capabilities and Credentials * Proven ability in project pursuits including client engagement, developing teaming strategies and developing proposals * Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects * Ability to lead one or more design teams through all phases of project production * Ability to perform traffic studies, analysis, and modeling using Synchro, CORSIM, and/or VISSIM * Proficient using Microstation and any other relevant design software * Knowledge of calculations performed by software * Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite * Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * TxDOT Precertification preferred Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) minimum PE license in Texas or ability to obtain in 6 months Minimum of 12 years of traffic engineering experience This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.
