General Description:
This position will serve as a campus technical advisor on electrical matters and evaluate contracted electrical work. This position performs a variety of maintenance projects and preventative maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry.
Duties and Tasks:
Maintain electrical equipment and systems, correct problems, and perform new electrical installations in compliance with National Electrical Codes.
Provides the most economical and safest electrical service to campus.
Recommends latest or best electrical equipment, methods, systems, and tools.
Completes work orders with assigned priorities from immediate supervisor.
May be required to work at other campus locations.
Independently handles emergency work on weekends and holidays.
Assist other trades, perform safety checks, emergency response, maintain and order supplies and perform other duties as assigned.
Performs inspections, repairs, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
Able to determine equipment, parts, and supplies needed to complete assignments.
Completes work orders in a timely manner and records information in the computer maintenance management system.
Must report and be on campus during deemed weather-related events and emergencies to protect and restore campus grounds to operational condition, which may entail extended hours of work, snow and ice removal.
Inspect facilities daily report and conduct repairs or maintenance as needed.
Able to assist other trades (Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC) in performing duties as assigned by facilities manager.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSAs:
Ability to apply knowledge and skills to practical problem-solving
Ability to remain alert and aware of surroundings
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions independently
Proficient in the use of hand and electric tools, as well as any diagnostic equipment related to the trade
Ability to lift 75 lbs on a regular basis
Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Virginia driver's license and insurable driving record.
Experience with electrical repairs and installation.
Experience as a technical advisor on electrical matters .
Experience in preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.
Additional Considerations
Experience working on parking lot lighting.
Certified in the use of bucket truck.
Journeyman Trade License
Training in House Wiring and Commercial Electrical application
Operation of a State Vehicle Yes Supervises Employees No Required Travel
Maybe required to travel between NOVA Campuses.
