Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in carpentry work under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR
Successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Carpenter) traineeship or a two-year carpenter training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program *such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will perform journey-level work in the carpentry trade. The incumbent will:
Perform a variety of duties in new construction, restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and repair of park and historic site facilities and structures using the tools of the carpentry trade in a skilled manner.
Fabricate, construct, repair, replace, and perform preventative maintenance on regional facilities and other structures.
Adhere to professional codes and regulations common to the carpentry trade.
Lay out work following blueprints, specifications, or instructions, and diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects; and order supplies as needed.
Act independently with a minimum of direct supervision and be responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects.
Train employees and assign, supervise, review, and evaluate their work and assist in other areas of park operations.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
Must have the ability to supervise others.
Must have the ability to communicate in writing and comprehend written material.
Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use and be able to work from heights.
Knowledge of Historic Preservation is desired.

The posted hiring rate is the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($47,530) plus location pay of $1,543. The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($58,016) plus location pay of $1,543.
