The Trades Mechanic ensures the functionality and safety of all College campus buildings through a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. This role involves responding to building maintenance issues, client requests, and performing general maintenance and construction duties. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and reliability to ensure a safe campus environment for the college's operational success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Inspect buildings for safety, security, and code violations, reporting any damages, malfunctioning equipment, and needed maintenance or repairs to the appropriate supervisor for immediate resolution.

  • Conduct regular elevator inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.

  • Complete daily work orders and general maintenance tasks as directed through the facilities ticketing system to meet operational demands and deadlines efficiently.

  • Accurately document time spent and materials used for each task to ensure proper inventory and planning.

  • Provide building access to contractors and maintain a clean and orderly condition of all tools, equipment, and work areas.

  • Interact professionally with all members of the college community, providing high-quality service and prompt response to inquiries and requests.

  • Maintain a general working knowledge of building systems and functions.

  • Perform duties and assist other trades as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in a related field preferred.

  • 2-3 years of experience in trades, maintenance, or a related field required.

  • Capable of performing tasks that fall within the range of work normally performed by carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and locksmiths, though not at the level of a journeyman or licensed professional.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • General working knowledge of building systems and functions.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other trades.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently.

  • This position is active in nature, continuous movement throughout the college campus is required.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors and to verbally communicate with co-workers is essential.

  • Repetitive movements, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, reaching, pushing, stooping, climbing, and the ability to detect color-coding and read will be expected.

  • Availability to respond to emergencies in the evenings and weekends is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • This position works both indoors and outdoors.

  • Exposed to moderate noise levels

  • Occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions

  • Exposed to dust, oils, chemicals, and fumes

  • Exposed to vibration, moving mechanical parts, and the risk of electric shock

  • May occasionally work in a confined space or in a high, dangerous place

COMPENSATION

Compensation for this position will be between $ 24.30 - $ 29.15 hourly, commensurate with experience.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.00
