Compensation and Benefits:

The Full Salary Range for this position is $50,020.00 - $104,403.00  Annually. POSITION QUALIFIES FOR SIGNING BONUS PROGRAM...In addition, selected candidates who have additional multiple-trade certifications will qualify for Supplemental Pay: • $2,400 annually - for one additional certificate • $4,800 annually - two additional certificates • $7,200 annually - three (or more) additional certificates.

Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday; 7:00 am-4:00 pm; 8 hours per day

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:

Based on qualifications and experience, the selected applicant could be hired as an Inspector Trades I ($50,020 - $65,816), Inspector Trades II ($54,022 - $71,081), or an Inspector Trades Sr ($58,343 - $76,767)

The Electrical Trades Inspectors primary responsibility is to inspect residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations for compliance with the N.C. State Building Codes and City of Greensboro Ordinances. Some plan review requiring examination of electrical plans and construction documents for compliance with the N.C. State Building Codes is required. The applicant should have the knowledge and skills to provide quality inspections, investigate complaints, and recommend corrective actions with approval of supervisor. The applicant should exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to prepare correspondence and reports. The physical duties of the job include walking, standing, bending, reaching and kneeling, stooping and crawling in confined spaces, climbing ladders to access roof top equipment, attics etc., and other activities associated with the primary responsibilities. The Electrical Trades Inspector's working conditions include working in outdoor weather, around loud noise levels and in conditions with risk of electrical shock. The employee should have the knowledge to enforce City of Greensboro Ordinances and NC General Statutes pertaining to inspections and should have knowledge of and ability to comply with OSHA policies and procedures. A Mechanical Standard Level I and Plumbing Standard Level I Certification is required for this position or must be obtained within 2 years of employment in order to remain in the position. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years minimum 'hands-on' experience in residential, commercial & industrial construction wiring

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Electrical Standard Certificate Level I, II or III  "OR" Prequalified for Electrical Standard Certificate Level I, II or III

  • Microsoft Office Software experience

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Prior plan review and/or blueprint experience

  • Prior experience with a local municipality in electrical inspections

  • Experience in supervision

  • ICC Certification as Electrical Inspector

  • Mechanical Standard Level I and/or Plumbing Standard Level i
