TITLE/SALARY GRADE: Trades Generalist Locksmith, SG-12
SALARY: $43,484 annual salary rate (note: current or reconstructed salary for state employees in accordance with NYS Audit and Control)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Perform journey level tradesperson work, including planning, layout and supervision, in the locksmith trade. Activities and responsibilities will include:
Installs and repairs a wide variety of door and cabinet locks, including pushbutton and electronic locks
Install, troubleshoot and repair both stand-alone and hard-wired electronic card reader systems and door control panels
Perform preventive maintenance on doors, windows, hatches, desk and cabinet locks
Pins cores and cuts keys, following established procedures and keeping accurate records
Installs and modifies doors and all associated hardware, including locksets, exit devices, hinges and weather stripping
Installs, repairs and adjusts hydraulic closers and automatic door operators
May supervise semi-skilled and unskilled employees
Select and order repair materials and equipment
Consult with other college staff and consultants relative to the selection and specification of door and window hardware and security systems during the design and development of construction projects
Non-competitive four years of full-time experience in locksmithing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in locksmithing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Drivers License.
Experience working with hard-wired and stand alone card readers and access control systems. Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging technologies in the Locksmith field.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS: 7:00 am
Expertise in working with both hard-wired and stand-alone card readers and access control systems
Knowledge of the various tools, machines, equipment, materials, codes and accepted practices used in the trade
Ability to plan and layout locksmith work, read, interpret and work from plans, diagrams and specifications including master key system in a multiple building campus
Ability to maintain and operate a multiple building computer based electronic access system such as Winpak, Basis, Northern Systems or equivalent
Ability to estimate labor and material requirements of locksmith work
Ability to maintain accurate and timely records
Ability to communicate for the purpose of exchanging information
Ability to train and supervise others
Must be able to perform work requiring precision and attention to detail
Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position such as climbing ladders, bending, some moderate to heavy lifting
