Repair and rebuild railroad track. Physical duties will require frequent walking over extended areas with uneven footing; flexibility sufficient for track maintenance tasks such as flexing to pick up tie plates; balance sufficient to walk on ballast; standing for more than half of each work day with periodic breaks; lift/carry and push/pull equipment and other objects weighing 25 lbs. (frequently), 50 lbs. (occasionally), and 75 lbs. (infrequently); occasional climbing on ladders; bending, stooping, and kneeling; good eye-hand coordination; and bilateral dexterity.

Required Certifications:

For this position, you will be required to become a Union Pacific certified driver during your probationary period. To become certified, you must meet the following Motor Vehicle and Medical Requirements.

  • Motor Vehicle Requirements:

    1.Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
    2.Have valid driver's license
    3.Have an acceptable driving record per your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). This includes commercial and personal vehicles. No more than one moving violation conviction in the past three years. No DUI/DWI/Refusal convictions in the past three years. No more than one DOT reportable accident in past three years.
    4.You may also be required to obtain your Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if you will be operating a vehicle(s) with a GVWR of 26,000 lbs or greater. If this is required, you will need to obtain your CDL during your probationary period.

  • Medical Requirements:
    Must meet the medical requirements (also called physical qualifications) for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). For more information about FMCSA physical qualifications for drivers click here. Health and Medical Services at Union Pacific Railroad will make the final determination on whether or not an individual meets the FMCSA medical qualifications, and may add additional medical requirements to assure the person can safety perform job tasks, with or without accommodation.

Accountabilities

Drive spikes into ties with a spike maul.

Pull spikes with a claw bar.

Cut vegetation and brush when needed.

Remove and install ties with tie tongs

Drive company vehicles as required.

Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures.

Work with equipment.

Maintain track beds.

Handle and move track materials and equipment.

Perform track maintenance, repair, and installation.

Observe condition of tracks, track beds, and track right of way for problems or defects.

Dig holes and trenches.

Climb ladders.

Clip and unclip elastic fasteners.

Adze ties.

Unload or assist in unloading ballast from rail car, cart or truck

Remove and replace ballast.

Sweep, pick, and dig dust and snow from movable track parts

Lift rails using the manual track jack.

Plug spike holes.

Cut in rails.

Handle, place, and align tie plates under rails.

Install and remove rail anchors.

Perform any other work not mentioned above that is required to construct or rehabilitate railroad tracks.

Requirements

Must be capable of performing physically strenuous work on a continuous basis

Must be able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions as well as possess good verbal communication skills.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations.

Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner in order to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s).

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must be 21 years of age or older

Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

Job Description A Transfer Station Driver is responsible for safely operating a heavy commercial truck, a tractor trailer, a roll-off truck or a straight truck with a pup trailer to provide prompt and courteous delivery and removal of large containers. A Transfer Station Driver is responsible for ensuring his or her vehicle is in compliance with the Company's safety standards prior to operating the vehicle, ensures that all Company, state and federal regulations are adhered to at all times while operating the vehicle, and completes vehicle condition reports ("VCRs") on a daily basis to ensure that any vehicle defects are repaired in a timely manner. Principal Responsibilities * Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order. Report any safety issues on standard reports. * Safely operate his or her heavy truck, tractor or trailer along designated route, customer locations and to the disposal site; read route sheet, follow map and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by the dispatcher and/or supervisor. * Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility. * Courteously interact with all customers, dispatchers and others on a daily basis to ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner. * Perform minor repairs to containers on site or in the container yard. * Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers in accordance with applicable departmental procedures. * Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste. * Clean area around an accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies. * Continuously monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean waste from the container and container edges on each disposal trip. * Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs and other reports, as required. * Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for the department to ensure all customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner. * Follow all required safety policies and procedures. * Actively participate in the Company's ReSOP program. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
