Duties include performing the maintenance repair activities involved with M/W functions and carrying out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's safety policies and applicable laws. Works with direction from the M/W Supervisor and M/W Foreman.

  • Performs the day-to-day activities of a M/W gang; unloads and assists in the unloading and distribution of track material (rail, ties, spikes, plates, etc.)

  • Restores track after derailments; manages the right of way and structures for trains

  • Corrects deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge

  • Installs and repairs street crossings and railroad crossings; establishes and maintains drainage; installs, repairs, and cleans small culverts; removes snow when needed

  • Operates tools in the performance of duties such as rail saw, track wrench, spike maul, tie adz, claw bar, and others as needed

  • Sprays switches, angle bars, curves, and joints; lubricates track when/where necessary

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; with 2 years work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A CDL; other technical training; experience with heavy hand tools; previous work in an outside environment are preferred.

VIEW JOBS 11/27/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-25T00:00 Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: * Watch out for fire hazards in theworkplace while work is performed by other employees. * Maintain the conditions and requirementsstated on the safety permit. * Keep flammablematerials from ignition sources. * In the event of fire, extinguish itimmediately or turn a fire alarm on. * Call 911 of theemergency alarm number, and or notify plant service * Stop operations ifyou find any hazardous condition. * Make sure you andother employees are aware of the exact location of fire fighting equipment inthe immediate area * Maintain constantmeans of communication * As much aspossible, keep visual and voice contact with other employees. * Before and duringeach shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release offlammable vapors or liquids. * Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers, hydrants,fixed monitors, and hose carts anytime. * Never leave the job site while the work is beingdone. If you have to leave, stop the joband notify workers that you are"standing-by-for". * When all operations are done, do not leave the worksiteunless you're sure that there are no hot sparks, burning embers and other firehazards. Return all fire fightingequipment to their original location * Perform general labor on construction site. Labor doesnot interfere with Fire Watch/Hole Watch duties. Basic Qualifications: * Able to perform some support tasks with close supervision/direction and support. * Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. * The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience.
