Duties include performing the maintenance repair activities involved with M/W functions and carrying out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's safety policies and applicable laws. Works with direction from the M/W Supervisor and M/W Foreman.

  • Performs the day-to-day activities of a M/W gang; unloads and assists in the unloading and distribution of track material (rail, ties, spikes, plates, etc.)

  • Restores track after derailments; manages the right of way and structures for trains

  • Corrects deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge

  • Installs and repairs street crossings and railroad crossings; establishes and maintains drainage; installs, repairs, and cleans small culverts; removes snow when needed

  • Operates tools in the performance of duties such as rail saw, track wrench, spike maul, tie adz, claw bar, and others as needed

  • Sprays switches, angle bars, curves, and joints; lubricates track when/where necessary

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; with 2 years work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A CDL; other technical training; experience with heavy hand tools; previous work in an outside environment are preferred.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Individual shall possess knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and be capable to operate and troubleshoot equipment such as: evaporators, crystallizers, reverse osmosis (RO) systems, micro-filtration, clarification, conventional filtration systems, and dewatering presses. Conduct various sampling, chemical, and biological analyses of wastewater influent and effluent. Review construction installation and operating conditions of wastewater treatment systems to determine completeness, operational readiness and detect faults. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION: * Operating experience with water treatment equipment including evaporators, crystallizers, reverse osmosis (RO) systems, micro-filtration, clarification and conventional filtration. * Ability to read P&ID and PFD documentation and blueprints a must. Ability to understand all the trade drawings and information formats, electrical, etc., also required. * Individual will support new facility commissioning, start-up and the subsequent operation of water treatment facilities. * Must have strong PC skills including experience with Microsoft Systems including Excel, Word, and Access. Firm knowledge of DCS systems and be able to take instruction over the phone to change various set points and control parameters. * Possess significant wastewater treatment chemical and biological process acumen and be able to effectively communicate information to others. * Possess significant laboratory skills and knowledge to conduct various analyses accurately and precisely. Examples include but are not limited to the following: titrations, gravimetric separations, chromatography, filtrations, and digestions. Bench tests: pH, conductivity, hardness, turbidity, TSS, TDS, chlorination, BOD, COD. * Foxboro, Fisher and Rosemount instrumentation experience required. The basic knowledge of rotating equipment, centrifugal pumps, chemical addition pumps and centrifugal compressors is required. * Individual shall be able to take remote verbal and written direction and execute the directions. The individual shall be able to communicate technical maintenance and production issues with plant maintenance and management personnel. In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work as circumstances require. Must know and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance. OBTAINING AN INDIANA WASTEWATER LICENSE: The Wastewater Treatment Specialist will have the opportunity to advance his/her career and pension band by studying, training and passing various wastewater certification tests available through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in pursuit of voluntary license. Wastewater Certification Test "B": After completing time and certification test requirements for wastewater test "B," a Wastewater Treatment Specialist shall be reclassified to a Lab Specialist 2nd Class with the associated pension band, provided he/she maintains this certification. Wastewater Certification Test "C": After completing time and certification test requirements for wastewater test "C," a Wastewater Treatment Specialist shall be reclassified to a Lab Specialist 1st Class with the associated pension band, provided he/she maintains this certification.
