Facebook Reality Labs is driving the industry forward by delivering best-in-industry VR products like Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, and Rift/Rift S. The VR Core User Experience team is responsible for delivering intuitive and powerful user-facing features within the core system software of our VR headsets.

As the TPM Manager for this team, you will be managing and growing an existing team of TPMs to help drive highly cross-functional projects that shape the way our users interact with our devices. This includes working with software engineers and interaction designers, and release management and quality assurance, tying together various efforts into a holistic program and driving it forward. You'll have a pivotal role defining how users interact with VR systems both now and well into the future, and be part of a well-supported team that values career development and personal growth.

The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading large projects across multiple software teams, as well as building and growing teams of TPMs. You will have a well-rounded technical background, with experience iterating with a multi-disciplinary team on the design of user interactions. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to manage the team, develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

TPM Manager, VR Core User Experience Responsibilities

  • Responsible for people management of a team, providing performance reviews, continual feedback, coaching and career growth for direct reports.

Hire and mentor a team of TPMs.

Work with engineering, product, and design leadership to define and revise the long-term strategy for the FRL software organization in the area of user experience.

Work with the team to develop end-to-end project plans, influence teams to deliver against them, and keep the organization and leadership informed on progress.

Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions.

Work with teams to set milestones, communicate project statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks.

Work with partner teams and leadership to ensure what we build has the right balance of cost vs. benefit, and focus on addressing the highest priority partner team and customer needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with building and managing a team of Technical Program Managers.
    6+ years of experience in technical program management.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in managing people, growing teams, and developing a team culture.

Communication and interpersonal experience, including relationship building and collaboration within a cross-functional team.

Knowledge of software development processes and best practices.

The VR Core UX organization is made up of three pillars: Interfaces: This pillar leads the Oculus Quest and Rift front end software user experience including the Universal Menu, Dialog system, Panels, Notifications, Oculus Link and Rift front end software.
