The Dean of Students is a leader responsible for contributing to and communicating a vision and focused plan
for improving student achievement and student behavior; creating a community of continuous learning for all
staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. In addition, the Dean is charged
with building strong partnerships with families and community, creating a safe, supportive school climate, and
effectively managing operational and technical issues to promote instructional progress. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
1.Participates or leads development of positive behavior support systems and development of
intervention strategies.
2.Demonstrated ability to work successfully and positively with all students to provide them with
assistance in meeting their educational needs.
3.Coordinates, facilitates and implements disciplinary intervention steps and processes with staff,
working closely with the principal.
4.Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws;
receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law
enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves
on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned. Enters referrals into database for state reporting.
5.Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Principal in managing the school; assumes
the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and as assigned.
6.Attends and participates in various leadership team meetings and other building meetings as
assigned.
7.Must possess the ability to interpret attendance data accurately. Coordinates, facilitates and
implements attendance intervention steps. Contacts students and parents to discuss attendance
irregularities. Coordinates and refers students to the principal in cases of absences at or beyond
twelve days. Assists with student discipline.
8.Coordinates implementation of parent involvement as well as school sponsored events.
9.Assists with school-wide and event supervision.
10. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with clarity and conciseness.
11. Motivates students in a positive direction, which will help students to increase individual decision-
making responsibilities.
12. Assist Principal in the evaluation of the performance of all school personnel.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
? Currently licensed or within one-year of obtaining license as Principal/Assistant Principal, Elementary
grade levels with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
? Positive recommendations from recent supervisors
? Energetic and positive approach to responsibilities.
? Self-motivated; able to accept criticism and grow as a result
? Strong communication and organizational skills.
? Three to Five years demonstrated successful teaching and/or counseling experience at elementary
school level preferred. Physical Demands:

distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year, and benefits will be established by the
Superintendent and in accordance with individually negotiated agreements.
