SUMMARY:

The Planner is responsible for achieving sales and profit objectives for a merchandise category or categories, working in conjunction with one or more buying teams. This responsibility includes the development and successful execution of topside and detail financial plans, assortment/buy guide, and merchandise allocation strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Planning

  • Collaborates with buying/planning team to develop pre-season strategies that support division/department financial goals and metrics.+ Develops bottoms up sales, receipts, inventory and gross margin plans at class level that support merchandise strategies to drive results.+ Provides supporting analysis for the Business Review.+ Makes recommendations on price & lifestyle strategies/guidelines in collaboration with Merchants.+ Develops aging/exit strategies at appropriate level of the Hierarchy.+ Understands and operates within liquidity targets; identifies potential issues, recommends appropriate actions.+ Recommends changes to liquidity targets to Manager of Planning/Sr. Planner for consideration.

In-Season Business Review Business Performance

  • Re-forecasts sales, receipts, inventory and margin by comparing current performance to Plan and LY; recommends changes to impact on-order, inventory, IMU %, pricing, and markdown cadence to achieve/exceed gross margin goals.+ Monitors compliance to liquidity targets.+ Influence OTB and markdown decisions that drive Sales and inventory productivity (R2R/Aging); assess potential impact to future season business.+ Challenge replenishment process to balance service levels and inventory productivity.+ Executes permanent markdowns to ensure they are consistent with financial plans and maintain currency.+ Identifies and communicates business opportunities, liabilities and risk -including replenishment-to Merchants based on current trends.+ Supports MP/SP's presentation of business opportunities to the SVP/VP Planning & Allocation/DMM/GMM with sales, inventory, margin analysis and actionable recommendations.+ Consistently utilizes standardized BME practices.+ Participates in/conducts the weekly Allocation Strategy session.

Assortment / Store Planning

  • Collaborates with Merchants on assortment requirements including 12 Box, top/bottom ratio, geographic/climate factors.+ Performs Vendor analysis to support assortment recommendations and identify potential risk.+ Creates buy guides (number of styles and number of units per style by store grade) to meet sales, liquidity, and profitability targets in collaboration with Inventory Analyst.+ Monitors buy plan execution in partnership with Merchants.+ Works with Merchants on order flow, size/color and case pack requirements
  • Evaluates store feedback with Merchants and incorporate as appropriate.+ Works with Inventory Analysts to exploit opportunities by store/profile to improve top line sales.+ Validates execution of store strategies (e.g., model stocks, top volume stores)--in partnership with the Inventory Analysts--by monitoring product and inventory to ensure appropriate levels to support forecast sales.+ Understands store cluster definitions and implications to business.+ Understands store floor space / fixture strategies and merchandising implications.+ Periodically visits BCF stores to validate inventory levels are accurately reflected on reports and look for opportunities to improve inventory and assortment positions.

Collaborative Relationships+ Creates a strong partnership with Buying, Replenishment, and Allocation teams to achieve financial objectives.+ Maintains effective working relationship with other functions: Marketing, Stores, Finance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.+ Minimum of 3 years prior experience buying and/or planning experience.+ Proven ability to drive results and achieve financial objectives through strong fact-based / intuitive decision making and partnership skills.+ Proven track record in assessing sales trends& inventory, understanding/interpreting financial data, and making accurate buy plan and forecast recommendations.+ Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and able to influence others.+ Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time.+ Ability to manage through conflict and problem resolution.+ Excellent computer skills (MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Business Intelligence).+ Ability to adapt to a changing environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods through out the day.

Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or Lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files, computer printouts on occasion.

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
