TOP: TRiO Student Support Services
We power the potential of first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities. Our dedicated staff provides services and support in the following areas:
One-on-one and group tutoring
Academic, career, and financial aid planning
Peer mentoring and networking with other students
College success classes, faculty-led sessions, and workshops
Assistance with applying for financial aid, scholarships, and grants
Community building and cultural events
Position Summary
The TOP Advisor powers the potential of TRIO students at Oregon Tech by providing holistic and wrap-around advising support to a caseload of up to approximately 75 students. Additionally, the TOP Advisor teaches student success seminar classes, coordinates Tech Opportunities Program (TOP) events, and manages student peer mentor staff. Finally, the TOP Advisor collaborates cross-institutionally and community-wide with program stakeholders in referring program participants to services on an as-needed basis. Normal business hours may vary, depending on department need and University events.
Minimum Requirements Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related area.
One year of experience providing direct service or advising low-income, first-generation, or disabled populations. Knowledge of social or cultural systems influencing poverty and/or homelessness.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong organization and record keeping skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology. Student Affairs, or related area. OR; Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Student Affairs AND 5 years of experience in education or social services (or combined).
Two years of experience advising/counseling college students.
Experience working or participating in programs for historically excluded students such as TRIO
Bi-lingual Spanish language fluency
