SUMMARY

Direct the activities of the Injection Mold Tooling department. Lead and motivate the Injection Molding Tooling Technicians and Tooling setup personnel to meet annual operational KPIs. The Tooling Supervisor is responsible for the preventative maintenance, upkeep, repair, and "return-to-operation" of injection molding tools that are actively engaged in producing quality products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee and Team Development:

  • Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.

  • Perform mid-year and year-end personnel reviews with all direct reports.

  • Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.

  • Coach and mentor tooling department staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.

  • Create and manage succession plans for the tooling design and machine shop functions.

Performance Management:

  • Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).

  • Solicit ongoing feedback from Jabil customers as well as the Sr. Engineering Manager, and internal Jabil customers (i.e. Quality, Process Engineers, Process Technicians, etc.)

  • Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments.

  • Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time (e.g., Mid-Year and Year End).

  • Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.

  • Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused in times of crises.

  • Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently in area of responsibility.

Communication:

  • Provide communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the department.

  • Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.

  • Ask questions; encourage input from team members.

  • Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.

Recruitment and Retention:

  • Recruit, interview, and hire injection molding tooling technicians and setup personnel as needed.

  • Monitor team member turnover: identify key factors that can be improved; make improvements.

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all tool planned preventative maintenance in the assigned maintenance tracking tool.

  • Track and ensure the toolroom has the necessary consumable and custom spares to ensure continuity of production.

  • Oversee the design and fabrication of tooling needed to support production.

  • Support and or design / assist with tooling for use in production such as fixtures for internal cost saving or improvement efforts.

  • Manage and schedule daily workload status to ensure a timely completion and cycle.

  • Interface and communicate with engineering personnel and or customers and appropriate vendors to design and fabricate new tooling.

  • Manage tooling budgets for internal cost control as well as tracking and maintaining customer tooling budgets to maximize current and future earning potential.

  • Participate in Program Manager led new tool build efforts by owning and managing vendors, timelines, and commutations.

  • Mange new tooling debugs, steel safe adjustments and qualifications efficiently to production

  • Manipulate customer CAD/data using various software for tooling designs, evaluations, modifications, etc.

  • Input jobs into a tooling department job process system and assure the communication flow of tool travelers to the toolroom technicians.

  • Coordinate with scheduling and to pull and set tools for PM's, job changes, repairs, etc. Convey and communicate scheduling and changes with Set-Up personnel.

  • Utilize internal and customer tracking systems for predictive and preemptive tool life expectancies as related to needing refurbishment or replacement activities.

  • Investigate and implement methods of improving efficiencies in tool cleanings and repairs techniques.

  • Work closely with production and scheduling personnel to report detailed status and timing and adjustments thereof.

  • Prepare requisitions as needed to purchase materials and/or tooling from outside sources whenever required.

  • Assure procedures and work instructions are efficient and not redundant.

  • Utilize appropriate failure mode evaluation techniques to understand and lead efforts in eliminating failures through design improvements.

  • Initiate tooling repairs and replacements aggressively to keep up with goal of 100% cavitation and expected cycle times.

  • Coordinate and partner with OEM's as well as local suppliers for outside repairs and enhancements.

  • Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Identify and implement new practices and processes.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service; anticipate, meet, and exceed expectations by solving problems quickly and effectively; making customer issues a priority.

  • Lead by example.

  • Utilize Jabil's corporate engineering group to ensure useful support of Jabil.

  • Establish new measurement systems if/where needed and possible.

  • Exchange knowledge and information with other Jabil facilities to ensure best practices are shared throughout the Jabil organization.

  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor, Jabil, and regulatory organizations.

  • Ensure direct reports are working safely as defined by all safety and health rules and regulations both externally and internally.

  • Comply with all procedures within the company security policy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred; and five years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of engineering disciplines including chemistry, mechanical, electrical, and industrial, as it pertains to design, manufacturing, and general machine work.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Advanced PC and Microsoft skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil's software packages.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as cycle times, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to work effectively under pressure with constantly changing priorities and deadlines. Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Be accessible to production floor and office staff and to use required office equipment. Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently. Ability to wear half face negative pressure air purifying respirator. Ability to maintain proper seal by not allowing more than one day's growth of facial hair on the sealing surface of the respirator. Participation in industrial hygiene for exposure to lead as defined under OSHA 1910.1025 (Occupational Exposure to Lead).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Individual's primary workstation is located in the office area, where the noise level is low. Team member may frequently be present on the machine shop floor where the noise level is moderate to high and the environment is dirty and hazardous due to the use of sharp tools and materials.
