Tooling Designer-Direct Hire Opportunity

Analyze customer requirements to create designs, or modify existing designs
Assist with assembly drawings and detail drawings, as required
Create Bill of Materials and release jobs using SAP
Create Job books to follow program through design to capture project lifecycle
Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction
Responsible for managing, maintaining, and communicating, the flow of information throughout the organization related to projects/programs
Utilize team approach to achieve overall technical and business objectives (design reviews). This includes participating in regular team meetings to ensure projects are progressing on time and on budget
Develop a thorough understanding of the technologies
Development and implementation of company design standards and practices for manufacturability and improved efficiency

Qualifications:
Some travel to Germany may be required for training
Working knowledge of 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Unigraphics NX 11.0 preferred)
3-5 years experience designing tooling/molds (thermoforming, edgefolding, lamination, foaming)
Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design (Bachelors degree preferred)
Understanding of pneumatics
Must have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
Must be a self starter and proactive problem solver
Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize project timelines
Must have good communication (verbal and non-verbal) and people skills.

Our After Sales & Service team in our Wixom, Michigan division is currently looking for a bright, ambitious Senior Service Mechanical Designer who enjoys team work and on-going challenging projects. MAJOR DUTIES: The Senior Service Mechanical Designer (SMD) is responsible for all mechanical design activity in the ATS Wixom technical services department. Responsible for making design changes for retrofit projects, generating concept design, releasing drawings for production, providing input for quoting design work effort, and supporting the service team. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: * A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques. * Must have a thorough knowledge of drafting principles. * Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works. * Must be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts. * Must be capable of working as part of a team. * A thorough knowledge of the use of pneumatics and hydraulics. * A thorough knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT's, etc.). * Must be capable of giving and taking direction. * Must demonstrate an ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design issues. * Able to independently complete all specific responsibilities with minimal supervision. * Produce working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product, using AutoCAD and Solid Works. * Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates. * Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products. * Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc. * Formalize and update drawing documentation. * Organize documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. on projects you are assigned to. * Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices with electrical designers. * Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs. * Examine feasibility of using one or more machines to carry out sequential operations. * Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. OSHA, CE or customer specific). * Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff. * Liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications. * Communicate all requested design changes to the Project Manager. * Responsible for communicating progress on tasks to the Manager, Technical Services. * Create drawings of existing tooling through the use of precision measuring devises such as verniers and micrometers. * Responsible for communicating time estimates and resource requirements on design tasks to the Manager, Technical Services and Project Manager. * Review machine operations and machine sequences with programmers. * Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians in the debug, integration resolving problems and completion of systems. * Determine tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies. * Examine project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment and problems involved in designing, changing or re-arranging materials. * Periodically oversee co-op students on various projects. * Adhere to all ISO procedures pertaining to the job responsibilities. * Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. * Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: * A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience. The successful candidate is a good communicator, displays professionalism and has well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of customer and ATS management in a multi-disciplined engineering environment under pressure. Excellent automation knowledge is an asset. Attention to detail and being well organized in engineering document management system is essential. Must have experience and be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Individual must have the ability to quickly gain knowledge to readily support troubleshooting systems.
