Develops and design layout for CNC work holding solutions.
Evaluates costs and reliability of new and existing tooling fixtures, dies, gauges, cutting tools and special tools for standard or special machining operations, assembly, outside production, inspection and testing, etc.
Analyzes and evaluates tool orders, work instruction sheets, part drawing, sketches etc. Coordinates with various engineering, manufacturing and operations groups on tooling proposals, problems and problem resolution, methods of producing tooling and current utilization/effectiveness.
Demonstrates a broad knowledge of materials, types of tooling, components of tooling, major machine tools, including CNC and NC related programmed machine tools, and the methods and processes used to fabricate tooling.
Role and Responsibilities
Include the following:
Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.
Selects standard items such as bushings and tool bits to incorporate into tool design.
Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings
