SUMMARY:

A Tooling Designer creates concepts, designs, and troubleshoots tooling used in the fabrication, welding and assembly of sheet metal and tubing structures with a focus on tooling safety, ergonomics, and design for manufacturability.. This position supports current production needs as well as new product development projects. This position sits in the Crenlo Rochester, MN Engineering team supporting the local facility as well as the other Crenlo North American facilities located in Watertown, SD and Greeneville, TN.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs safe and ergonomically correct tools and fixtures for manufacturing.

  • Cultivates and promotes a strong safety culture and follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifies and communicates workplace hazards and corrects or seeks assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

  • Designs tooling and fixtures from concept, through build process and prove-out in manufacturing through entire product life.

  • Conducts design reviews with manufacturing engineering, product design, and tool makers (internal & external) on a regular basis to manufacture product efficiently.

  • Executes work independently within requirements of product design specifications, cost parameters, and assure expected quality requirements.

  • Communicates project status to the team and organization.

  • Develops design solutions and manufacturing solutions based on an extensive understanding of Crenlo and external manufacturing processes and capabilities.

  • Requires an advanced understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing requirements and couples this knowledge with an understanding of manufacturing process capabilities for optimal design for manufacturability.

  • Provides concise and effective technical guidance and communication to internal and external customers; builds effective technical communication paths with internal and external customers.

  • Supports the resolution of current production design-based issues accurately, defines and delivers on customer requested production improvements and changes.

  • Creates 3D models and 2D detailed drawings using CREO-Parametric 4.0 (or higher versions).

Produces accurate build drawings consistently.

  • Other duties as assigned.
