As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts you will lead production transition activities for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the test and production for components and subsystems integrated on rocket launch vehicles and spacecraft. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Production by designing and implementing tooling solutions to accelerate the safe build of space vehicles.

  • Design, analyze and certify lifting equipment, ground support equipment (GSE), working platforms and tooling

  • Provide adequate documentation to ensure safety and certification to all applicable company standards and laws

  • Assist with the procurement and build

  • Provide cost estimates as well as vendor selection and management

  • Oversee equipment fabrication and provide support to production

  • Authorize in-build redlines and implement changes to the to improve the design

  • Define, coordinate and execute maintenance and certification schedules for lifting equipment and GSE

  • Design and implement certification and re-certification proof testing of lifting equipment and GSE

  • Review designs and drawings of flight hardware for manufacturability and maintainability and provide feedback to the design and definition team to improve build flow

  • Design and implement fixtures, jigs and shop aids from machined, welded or 3D printed materials, to enhance production speed and quality

  • Catalogue and track existing and new lifting equipment, ground support equipment (GSE), working platforms and tooling

  • Review, specify and purchase off the shelf tools as requested by the manufacturing and production groups

  • Review company manufacturing procedures for continuous improvement and liaise with process owners to implement change

  • Mentor and educate on process architecture, execution, and improvements to simplify manufacture

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering or physics discipline.

  • 8+ years of demonstrated resourcefulness and execution within complex, rapidly-changing manufacturing environments.

  • Experience using CAD and FEA software (ProE and ANSYS preferred)

  • Familiar with applicable codes and standards, such as ASME Y14.5, OSHA 1910, ASCE 7

  • Experience developing procedures for testing, checkout, commissioning and maintenance of fixtures/tooling

  • Experience with Welded Joint analysis.

  • Possess and exhibits high judgement

  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle

  • Experience with 3D CAD software such as Creo, Pro/Engineer, CATIA, NX, Solidworks or similar

  • Experience with finite element analysis and modeling tools, such Ansys, HyperMesh, Femap, or similar

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with ERP systems, work order creation/management, and BOM structures.

  • Experience in both development and production environments.

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, VBA or other programing language

  • Experience with jigs and fixtures for aircraft, launch vehicle or spacecraft production and maintenance

  • Experience with configuration management and maintenance

  • Experience with cranes and lifting equipment and ASME B30.20/BTH-1

  • Experience with configuration management and maintenance

  • Experience in small company, startup, or growth transition environments

This position requires strong technical skills to support the development of tooling for the production team. Responsibilities: * Conceptual design of tooling motion platforms for the manufacture/assembly of flight hardware * Conceptual design of tooling end effector integration for NDT(non destructive testing) and Trim/Drill systems for the manufacture/assembly of flight hardware * Detailed design of jigs, fixtures and tooling equipment to support manufacturing and assembly of structural and/or composite components * Provide cost estimates as well as Vendor selection and management * Develop and manage tooling concepts to minimize production times * Support development of processes and procedures for manufacturing * Oversee equipment fabrication and provide support to production * Provide technical guidance and support for implementation of tooling & fixtures * Active involvement in functional checkouts and commissioning of equipment * Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status * Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers * Identify opportunities for cost savings Qualifications: * B.S. degree in engineering with a background in aerospace/aeronautical vehicle ground support equipment development, maintenance, and commissioning * Experience in design and manufacturing of mobile tooling in support of large scale assembly * Experience in design and manufacturing of robotic tooling in support of large scale assembly or fabrication. * Experience in end effector integration of NDT (non destructive testing) and Trim and Drill Systems with robotic platforms * Experience with design, build and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for the assembly and manufacture of aerospace vehicles and components * Experience managing contractors during design, procurement and build cycles of tooling and related components * Experience in selection and implementation of tools and equipment to provide access, ease of manufacturing and other similar tasks with the goal of streamlining vehicle production and manufacturing * Experience developing procedures for testing, checkout, commissioning and maintenance of fixtures/tooling * Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (ProE and ANSYS preferred) * Familiar with applicable ASME standards, such as ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41 * Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
