The Toolroom Supervisor is responsible for supervision, direction, and implementation of all toolroom activities to optimize tool repair and production. Oversee the fabrication of new or improvement of existing tools to enable the production processes within the manufacturing facility to be as efficient as possible, with a primary focus on aspects of safety, cost control, efficiency, and product quality. The Toolroom Supervisor will develop and implement an overall tool design strategy to maximize efficiency and guarantee on time availability of tools and to ensure continuous production and increase of tool effectiveness. This role has multiple direct reports; tool designer, EDM operator, machinist and toolmakers working in the department.
Provide specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of tool design, manufacturing and estimating. Support production and engineering with tooling and technical problems.
Manage the operation and plan activities and schedules of toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Supports production to manage and guarantee on time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase tool life and overall tool effectiveness.
Plan, schedule, and prioritize all available resources (i.e., people, equipment, materials) to maximize the efficiency, throughput, and timeliness of tool repairs (quality on 1st try)
Provide training, discipline, and monitor ongoing performance of tool room personnel to deliver high quality and productivity.
Identify, develop, and implement tooling equipment improvements, hands on approach to troubleshoot problems and provide functional solutions and promote continuous improvements.
Maximize the use of all resources Gemba board, Flow Rack, Quality Circle, Kaizen, 5S including IT and database maintenance for tracking all tools and tool repair related activities.
Implement budget for investment of new equipment and lead change management
Implement storage of tools and supplies to facilitate highest standards within the department (6S) for good housekeeping, health, safety, and environment.
Ensure all stock items, equipment spares, and tool supplies are available to support the execution of daily plans and are properly stored and organized.
Oversee all work through the tool room efficiently, cost effectively, and ensure that all target dates for tooling are met.
Provide quotations for new tooling, modifications, and repairs.
Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the tool room products, materials and advise others of any impact.
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for tool room.
Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met by working to the plan, including management of and reporting.
Relevant manufacturing experience or engineering degree is preferred.
5-10 years' experience in a technical field within a manufacturing environment, specifically within tool and die making.
Experience with supervising and managing a cross-functional team.
Technical understanding of tool and die making and preferably with tool and die certificate and the ability to operate all toolroom equipment (lathe, milling centers, CNC grinder, EDM, CNC hole popper, mini-Haas CNC).
Competent in problem solving, team building and decision making.
Good understanding of ISO, SPC and QS systems.
Experience with Lean manufacturing, Kaizen or Six Sigma in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation as well as excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and to thrive in a multitasking environment.
Flexible and willing to embrace and promote changes.
Proficient in Microsoft office and understanding of ERP systems, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CNC programing software, Esprit, etc.
Compensation
Salary Minimum: $70,000
Salary Maximum: $110,000
