This role in summary

The Tool Room Scheduler-Expediter supports the division's production by directing and

expediting the procurement of critical tooling and die-repair components, by planning,

organizing, and scheduling department work orders, and by coordinating the department

workload to ensure maximal resource utilization and equipment uptime. The Tool Room

Scheduler-Expediter will also maintain preventative maintenance schedules for Tool Room

equipment and utilize applicable asset management programs for tooling and machinery.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Escalate potential safety concerns with work scheduled for the Tool Room and assist in safety initiatives.

  • Evaluate tooling parts requirements for completion of Tool Room activities and coordinate procurement requests of required parts.

  • Coordinate with Tool Room leads, Press Room, production supervisors, engineers, and other stakeholders, as necessary, to determine priority work orders.

  • Track and update work orders/materials from start through completion.

  • Expedite tool & die repair components to minimize downtime of critical plant tooling.

  • Communicate priority tooling, fabrication, or preventative maintenance needs to supervisor/leads daily, summarizing jobs to be performed.

  • Schedule outside tool shops, upon request of Tool Room supervision, to complete or expedite Tool Room work orders.

  • Provide Tool Room lead persons with tool & die maintenance and repair schedules.

  • Maintain electronic and/or paper database files about facility tooling, work history, and tooling spare parts inventories.

  • Maintain Tool Room equipment procurement files for parts, supplies, and services.

  • Manage tooling inventory to support existing and new dies/tooling.

  • Organize the tooling inventory, purging obsolete tooling, as needed.

  • Investigate current processes for maintenance and inventory management, making recommendations for optimization or the adoption of new methods, as appropriate.

  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Tool Room supervisor.

Minimum requirements

Associate's Degree in a manufacturing/technology field and one (1) year of tool room or

machine shop experience is preferred, but will consider manufacturing experience;

OR a high school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education equivalent to one year (1)

of a technical discipline, and three (3) years of tool room or machine shop experience

preferred, but will consider manufacturing experience;

OR a high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of tool room or machine shop

experience preferred, but will consider manufacturing experience.

Preferred skills and experiences

● Computer literacy in spreadsheets and databases required

● Ability to comprehend blueprints and bills of materials, as demonstrated by successful

completion of Fundamentals of Blueprint and Shop Safety (Gateway Technical

College) or equivalent

● Familiarity with tooling and tool room equipment. Knowledge of tooling materials,

stamping dies, stamping presses, jigs, and fixtures is a plus.

● Ability to use or learn computerized tooling maintenance management systems.

● Experience with CAD is a plus.

● Ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad cross-section of

manufacturing personnel, toolmakers, technicians, vendors, and departments.

● Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
