Tool Presetter

Prepare and change perishable tools and tooling components required by production and maintain pre-set line inventory.

Performance Expectations

  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements in the facility's geographic location and:

o The Global Operating System Plays;

o OHSAS 18001:2007 Health and Safety management system standard;

o ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management system standard;

o IATF 16949:2016 Technical Specification Management and Linamar Quality Basics system standards. Support, Foster, Promote and Demonstrate Linamar's Core Values and Leadership Behaviors

  • Maintain balance between customer, employee, and financial satisfaction by maximizing facility/department Performance Indicators to align to Linamar's Stepping Stool of Success Strategy.

  • Support and maintain department lean initiatives as set out in LPS system requirements.

o Maintain department 5S requirements.

  • Pre-set tools to specification for use on production lines.

  • Ensure all department procedures are followed.

  • Ensure the department has all necessary hand tools.

  • Ensure proper tool drawings and setting procedures are in place and available for use by department personnel. Report incorrect drawings to supervisor for corrections.

  • Perform tooling repairs on assigned equipment as outlined in processes and procedures for the product tool holder, collets, chuck, head, etc.

  • Assist in operation of production equipment or assist other support personnel when needed as assigned by Production Supervisor.

  • Assist with setting min/max quantities and initial order of tools to start new lines and stock tool crib.

  • Work directly with other support departments monitoring and controlling tool test and new tool developments. Troubleshoot problem areas.

  • Perform calculations to set machine parameters such as spindle speeds, feed rates, chip load, surface footage, etc.

  • Ensure department has all necessary hand and power tools to pre-set and set up all tools correctly for the production lines.

  • Control and perform all tool tests, troubleshoot, and take corrective action when needed.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Participation in continuous improvement programs.

Credentials

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Engineering technician with applied science degree.

o Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Able to locate, identify, troubleshoot, correct, and document tooling problems and do tool setting as designed and processed.

  • Able to locate and identify perishable tooling problems.

  • Able to recognize operational inconsistencies on assigned tooling.

  • Able to work in a cross functional team and help train other cell associates on minor aspects of the tooling process.

  • Able to identify unusual tool usage or breakage and recommends corrective actions or perform correction actions.

  • Able to assist in identification of correction to quality issues related to tooling problems.

  • Able to read, understand concepts of gauges and other equipment required to complete tool set up needs and installation where necessary or the ability and willingness to learn.
