JOB SUMMARY

The Tool Shop is responsible for the construction and maintenance of production tooling including stamping dies, holding fixtures, Polymer Products molds, assembly tooling, inspection gages and special equipment. Primary responsibilities will be to program, set-up, and operate various pieces of CNC equipment including Wire EDM, water jet, turning, and vertical machinery as required using conversational controls, and Mazatrol. The ability to use and or learn Esprit programming software will be required. Employees will also be given assignments to machine, fabricate, repair, troubleshoot and problem solve through the leadership team of the department and may have reason to work closely with other machinists, toolmakers, or design engineers as required to complete assignments. The ability to communicate, cooperate and work in the team environment is a priority.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Understanding of various stamping die details and their function in order to perform Wire EDM operations.

  • Must be able to determine proper processes and sequence of processes to produce parts per print.

  • Assume responsibility for the quality of completed assignments.

  • Using ingenuity and problem solving skills to produce, fabricate, and troubleshoot parts and / or assemblies is required.

  • Must be able to work independently, meet productivity, and due date requirements of assignments.

  • Adherence to established safety practices and procedures while performing assignments.

  • Applicant must have extensive CNC experience including Wire EDM, turning, and milling in order to produce close tolerance and high precision parts per drawings provided.

  • The ability to use Mazatrol and other conversational controls to create programs.

  • Use shop mathematics, trigonometry, handbook formulas and all types of precision measuring instruments including height gages, micrometers, and calipers.

  • Completion of a Tool & Die or Mold Maker apprenticeship or formal training is required.

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • The ability to set-up and operate manual milling, turning and grinding machinery.

  • Must be able to read and understand complex blueprints including die, fixture and piece part drawings.

  • Must have an understanding of tolerances and the application of GD&T.

  • Set-up, operation and conversational programming of CNC equipment and basic tool making skills.

Experience working in the automotive stamping industry on medium to large transfer dies is desired. Essential Functions of the Job: * Adhere to all safety standards / requirements of Tower International and other regulating groups. * Clean and organize work areas to promote 5S and safety initiatives. * Perform die repairs at the press and in the tool room. * Complete Preventative Maintenance activities on the dies. * Weld a variety of materials used in maintenance and the tool room. * Repair and maintain nitrogen pressure systems used in the dies. * Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical / pneumatic systems used in the dies. * Operation of the overhead crane to move and stage dies. * Machining of materials associated with repairs and maintenance of the dies. * Regular and punctual, in-person attendance is required Qualifications: * A state issued journeyman's card or a minimum of (2) years verifiable experience working on metal stamping dies. * Strong knowledge / experience related to draw dies and transfer die processes. * Time management skills with the ability to multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. * Welding experience and the ability to operate welding, plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene equipment. Typical welding processes include; Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). * Strong knowledge of machinery set-up and operations. * Experience with trouble shooting and root cause analysis, to implement permanent corrective actions. * Good communication and interpersonal skills for use in a team environment. * Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, when workloads exceed normal levels.
