We are seeking a Tool & Die Maker to join our facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area). Union position. 1st shift or 2nd shift.

Lay out, fabricate and assemble various types of tools and dies.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
100%:

  • Read and interpret information from planning documents, drawings, tool orders, blueprints, sketches, specifications, engineering orders and quality assurance manuals to determine the methods and sequence of operations necessary to completely fabricate and assemble all types and sizes of tools, molds, jigs, dies and fixtures.

  • Lay out details, dimensions and tooling points of parts, tools, molds, jigs, dies and fixtures preparatory to fabrication operations using shop mathematics, geometry and trigonometry.

  • Set up and operate hand tools and power machine tools.

  • Fabricate, assemble and proof a variety of molds, jigs, fixtures, tools and dies, inspection check fixtures and tools, to required configuration, close and exacting dimensions, and tolerances, such as drill jigs having coordinated dimensions in planes not at right angles, progressive or compound dies, draw dies with deep, irregular or variable depth draws, form dies, hot sizing dies, punch press dies and fixtures incorporating indexing principles.

  • Check work in progress and complete parts, using precision measuring devices, for adherence to specified configuration, dimensions, tolerances and finish.

  • Record manufacturing data and statistics manually or with the aid of a computer or computer-based system.

  • Record tube manufacturing data and statistics manually or with the aid of a computer or computer-based system.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of machining experience or equivalent tool and die maker.

Read and interpret information from engineering documents, drawings, blueprints, engineering models and conceptual designs.

Has experience interpreting Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).

Apply knowledge of machining theory, mechanical systems, welding and assembly to layout, fabricate and build various types of tooling.

Has an understanding of tolerance stack up and datum structures.

Must have experience working with jigs, fixtures, inspection check fixtures and tooling dies. Must have excellent math skills.

Must have a proven safety record and understands factory process safety rules and requirements. Needs to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidate must be able to thrive in a team environment, work independently, and embrace continuous improvement.

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Work Environment and Physical

Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.

While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations.

Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each) 100%: * Design Tools for fabrication, inspection and processing of parts and assemblies based on tooling design concepts or practices. * Read and interpret conceptual designs, drawings, blueprints, engineering orders, sketches, tool orders, manuals, charts and graphs to layout and draw tool designs utilizing drafting techniques including computer based design or drafting systems * Perform mathematical calculations using shop math, including geometric and trigonometric formulas to compute and locate dimensions, angles, contours, convex and concave surfaces, reference lines, center points and machining guidelines. * Design a variety of production, engineering and developmental tools to be used in machining, fabrication, and processing applying a knowledge of the working properties and machining characteristics of various metals, plastics, ceramics and composite materials. * Coordinate tool requisition, design concepts, changes, modifications and requirements with Tool Engineers as required. * Assist shop personnel in understanding the tool design drawing as required. * Record manufacturing data and statistics manually or with the use of a computer or computer based systems.
