Job Description:

Summary: Under the direction of management, exercises responsibility for execution of department strategies and objectives. This position provides technical expertise and capability to support all aspects of new tooling and die development and repair of existing tooling and dies, per section scope, as determined by site Maintenance Management. This position exercises independent judgment routinely and operates within established guidelines.

Essential Functions: Includes the following (other duties may be documented and assigned by local management and some duties may not apply dependent upon the requirements of the position at each specific (USMS)AM site and/or the strengths of the employee and the needs of the company):

  • Under direct supervision plan, coordinate, and implement necessary development activities for new tooling and dies, per drawing specifications provided.

  • Provide technical support with specific process improvement projects (ex. Improvements to existing tooling and dies, Spare parts inventory, Tooling and die maintenance to support operations, etc.)

  • Evaluate current development processes and new technologies, generate improvement ideas, and coordinate implementation to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and/or cost.

  • Provide advanced technical support and training for Maintenance Department staff and other departments, as necessary, including troubleshooting tooling/die/process issues, optimum tooling or die design, and all aspects of prototype (tooling, dies, fixtures, samples, etc.) development.

  • Effectively communicate with cross functional team, area management, related co-workers, contractors, vendors, etc. to ensure project schedule, budget, and planned benefits are achieved with minimal impact to normal operations.

  • Support 5S guidelines for Tool & Die shop and equipment conditions. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, as specified by site Tool & Die Management.

  • Promote and support continuous improvement of existing departmental systems and procedures.

  • Perform all assigned responsibilities in a timely, responsible, and cooperative manner.

  • Provide assistance in the MRO department with parts and tracking.

  • Support all business objectives of the company by aligning maintenance activities with the organizational goals and objectives.

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with all levels of staff required. The ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information is required.

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and following all regulations and requirements related to safety and environmental compliance.

  • Responsible for following all quality policy standards.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills & abilities: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Possess ability to perform duties utilizing current company software applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills required. This position performs job duties in an ethical and professional manner. Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or associate degree preferred.

Experience: >5 years prior related experience in tool & die field

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities may be required for this position.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Ability to work 40 - 60 hours per week, including weekends and holiday work.

Travel: Domestic travel is required (average less than 2 days per month) and international travel may be rarely required, to meet standard job requirements.

Work Environment: Mainly shop environment, with some office work and exposure to manufacturing areas.
