PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The primary responsibility of the Title 1 Reading/Math teacher is to assist elementary teachers through collaborative planning and delivery of instruction. The Title 1 teacher utilizes the most effective practice in the teaching and assessment of reading, language arts, and mathematics. The Title 1 Teacher models excellent teaching strategies, ensuring implementation of state and district curriculum standards.

Model excellent teaching practices through classroom instruction in reading, language arts or math.
Assist staff in performing diagnostic assessment for underachieving students and developing plans to meet student needs. Review and utilize school data to ensure maximum student achievement.
Plan with teachers for the most effective use of methods and materials to increase student achievement. Participate in grade level meetings within a building, reflecting on the effective implementation of curriculum.
Work with small groups or in individual settings (preferably within a classroom when appropriate) to provide students the instructional strategies necessary to become independent readers/learners.
Take a leadership role in communicating how state standards are reflected in ISAT when preparing students to meet the increasing demands of Title 1 guidelines.
Understand and interpret Title 1 regulations as they apply to the school's application, budget, maintenance of materials and evaluation.
Demonstrate hands-on activity-based learning strategies as well as other strategies based on individual learning styles to more effectively engage students.
Assist staff with the appropriate and effective use of the district adopted math and reading/language arts instructional materials.

QUALIFICATIONS: Elementary Certification with state approved Reading Teacher Endorsement/5 hours of Math (certified prior to 1997; 9 hours of Math certified after 1997).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive expertise in reading/language arts and/or mathematics teaching strategies as supported by course work/training in such areas as guided reading, literature circles, phonics and phonemic awareness, hands on math activities and state standards.
Current knowledge and demonstrated ability to use techniques that address various learning styles such as multiple intelligence strategies, integrated learning, interdisciplinary connections, cooperative learning strategies, integration of technology, higher order thinking skills instructional assessments and brain research.
Exceptional people skills, including the ability to work in a team and demonstrate a high level of professionalism while maintaining confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.
Outstanding teaching skills as evidenced by evaluations and classroom observations.
Demonstrate ability to work with diverse student populations including minority and/or low performing students.
