This site is a part of the Rural Health Service Corps (RHSC). RHSC is an AmeriCorps National Service Program administered by the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The purpose of the Rural Health Service Corps is to provide meaningful service and learning opportunities for people committed to improving the health and lives of those living in South Central New York State. Rural Health Service Corps members address the broad community health needs of South Central NY, with a focus on health access and education (specifically combating the opioid epidemic) and creating systemic food security.
AmeriCorps members serving through the Rural Health Service Corps have the opportunity to serve their communities as they develop professional skills, build teamwork and leadership abilities, learn more about the areas of nonprofit management and community health, and connect with a broad network of AmeriCorps members, alumni and supporters. Rural Health Service Corps started in 2008 and expanded to include a VISTA program in 2012. Since the RHSC program's inception, over 200 members have served with RHSC in communities throughout South Central NY. RHSC alumni have gone on to careers in medicine, public health and nonprofit management, among other fields.
