Timber Sales Administration Trainer
HS/GED Degree OR Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Timber sale
administration, contracting Previously completed training in Must have been
previously certified as a timber sales administrator
A valid driver's license.
Ability to coordinate and conduct timber sale administration duties.
Knowledge of timber sale contracts and contacting procedures.
Knowledge of forestry land management theories, concepts, and practices.
Skills in communication and interpersonal relations.
Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Field Sampled
Vegetation (FSVEG), Forest Service Activity Tracking System (FACTS)
As an individual considered an expert in the field of Timber Sales
Administration, trains and coaches Forest Service employees performing duties
covering the entire array of Timber Sales Administration activities.
Acts as a consultant to Timber Sales Administrators as they perform field
inspections of purchase operations prior to advising field representatives on
the adequacy of operations and taking action to correct deficiencies. 20%
Reviews timber sale statements or accounts prepared by Timber Sales
Administrators to ensure sufficiency and accuracy of assessment; advises on
activities and methods to make improvements. 10%
Works closely with Forest Service Timber Sales Administrators to provide
guidance and advice in the review and assessment of timber sale contracts and
pre-sale data to determine sufficiency and viability. Reviews and appraises the
forest area timber resource to determine the area's capacity to meet allowable
cut/public demand and future needs, as well as the protection and regeneration
of the resource. Determines that all prerequisites to contract work are taken
care of such as, but not limited to, advance deposits, delegations of authority,
road construction and timber cutting coordination, improvement locations,
operating schedule, logging plan preparation, scaling arrangements, and
environmental protection measures. Reviews plans and schedules with purchasers
to assure common understanding of conditions and responsibilities. 30%
Shadows and reviews work of Timber Sales Administrators as they inspect work
for compliance with contract specifications and provisions, prepare service
contracts, and ensure contractual obligations are met before recommending sale
closure. Help determine best access routes and cutting units, and ensures that
logging methods are consistent with transportation and silvicultural plans.
Trains Forest SErvice or contracted employees to conduct timber sales
administration activities; including timber layout and marking. Help with sales
layout program; oversees cruising and marking of timber contracts; determines
sales volume; helps preparation of timber sales reports and appraisals, and
prepares timber sale contracts. 20%
Overnight travel: 2-5 nights per month
Health and Safety Considerations: Valid driver's license and review of
the Job Hazard Analysis for the activity at the field location.
Required Safety Gear: Hard hat, safety vest and field boots.
Safety Gear Use: Hard hat and field boots will be required as per the JHA,
but will be required while out of the vehicle and in the woods working. Safety
vest will be required as per the JHA, but at a minimum while working in road
right-of-ways of county, state and federal highways.
