Background Information:

Wyoming Public Schools applied for the The MI Kids Back on Track grant, which provides resources to support supplemental, Tier II instruction in Mathematics or English Language Arts. These funds are one-time in nature and are only for the 2024-2025 school year. The purpose of this grant is to address unfinished learning, get students to grade-level academic standards, and provide additional academic assistance to students who are at risk of falling behind their peers. If you are an optimistic, passionate, problem-solving educator who believes that all students can and will learn, this might be the role for you.

In this role:

Upon receipt of The MI Kids Back on Track grant, Wyoming Junior High and Wyoming High School aim to offer Tier II supplemental courses in ELA and Mathematics throughout the instructional day (in periods one through six) during the 2024-2025 school year. These would be semester-long courses and are in addition to students' core Math or ELA course.

Teachers in these roles would leverage a mastery-based courseware designed to meet students in their zone of proximal development in order to accelerate learning and close learning gaps. As we are early in the hiring process, we hope to identify our staff for these positions now in order to lift up our educators' voice and expertise in the program design process (including courseware selection).

Teachers interested in these Tier II courses can expect a smaller class size in order to focus their time and talents on individualized and small group instructional strategies. Beyond closing learning gaps in ELA and Math, these Tier II courses must have an intentional focus on study skills such as time management, self-motivation, organization, and test taking strategies. Furthermore, these supplemental courses aim to integrate skills and dispositions necessary for success in the 7-12 setting, and also in post-secondary pathways. These skills and dispositions will derive directly from our Wyoming Public Schools Profile of a Graduate (which is currently in development).

What you need:

  • A positive, optimistic, and problem-solving mindset with a relentless belief that all students can learn at high levels

  • Knowledge and experience in using research-based practices and strategies in literacy or mathematics

  • Knowledge and experience in differentiated instruction based on student learning styles

  • Knowledge and skills in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual or small group supports

  • Knowledge and skills in collecting, analyzing, and maintaining student data

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, including knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and fellow teammates

  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Credentials:

  • Secondary teaching certification in English Language Arts or Mathematics

  • Knowledge and experiences in closing achievement gaps are highly preferred
