Overview

Drive truck, responsible for pickup and deliveries of merchandise and donations. Participate in the loading and unloading of the Thrift Store truck, as well as work in the thrift store, working with customers, lifting and carrying donated/purchased items and operate the baler.

Operate an electronic cash register and accurately make monetary transactions. This is a regular full time position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with customers, donors, co-workers and supervisors. This includes but is not limited to such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, volunteers and customer; and respect for others and their property.

    Professional and appropriate communication to and about customers, donors, co-workers and supervisors. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. Drive store truck/van to pick up merchandise/donations.

    Assist the Manager with assigned routes to each address and evaluate donations for appropriateness and accept or reject as needed applying store policies and guidelines. Load and unload donations in a safe, secure manner to minimize damage and breakage. Issue donor receipts for donated items.

    Deliver donations to store and/or office, unload truck/van taking donations to designated areas. Do other pickups and deliveries as instructed. Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, monitor and notify office of needed repairs and routine maintenance.

    Operate vehicle in safe manner. Assist with the Thrift Store operations efficiently and effectively, while maintaining the established SA policies and procedures. Provide independent, courteous problem-solving services to thrift store customers in a timely, accurate and effective manner.

    Forwards concerns/suggestions/complaints to the appropriate individual. Answer the phone in a business type manner. Operate cash register, accurately recording each sale and preparing daily sales reports.

    Assist donors with unloading of donations from the donor's vehicle and provides receipts for donations as necessary. Sort incoming donations and prices only saleable donated items on the sales floor for display. Assist in keeping the sales floor clean and neat by picking up any debris and or safety hazards.

    Direct and guide volunteers as they complete tasks throughout the thrift store. Bail all cardboard and stack it for disposal. Attend meetings. And all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent education and experience. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Customer service and/or cashiering experience preferred. Minimum of one year commercial driving experience, class "D" license and pass the DOT medical exam. Amiable, helpful, courteous, trustworthy, and respectful demeanor, with ability to work well with fellow employees and volunteers, take supervision from thrift store manager, and demonstrate concern for thrift store customers.

Must be able to lift heavy objects. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army's background check, clerical screenings and MVR drivers' qualification. Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Requires the ability to attach unloading extension chutes and lift weight as heavy as sixty five pounds. Frequently climbing steps to enter truck and to reach top of mixer drum over 30 times a day. Perform all functions in adverse weather conditions when required (heat, cold, rain, sleet and snow) and at various construction sites where noise, dust, poor road conditions often exist. Working hours will vary and may include weekends. General Responsibilities (Redi Mix Concrete Truck Driver) 1. Ensure strict compliance with safety, health, environmental, employment, management, and other company policies, procedures, and principles established by government agencies and Strata Corporation 2. Participate in safety efforts including identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and/or safety policy violations, and participating in safety meetings/training. 3. Conduct daily truck maintenance including, DOT daily service inspection, fueling, greasing, and cleaning mixing drum. Additional maintenance may be required as directed by supervisor 4. Maintain high expectations of truck appearance and cleanliness, both interior and exterior, in accordance with Strata Corporation policy 5. Must be knowledgeable in the " Basics" of Concrete 6. Must be able to add various ingredients to concrete loads such as fibers, color, and admixtures, which can routinely weigh more than 60 pounds. 7. Must be able to properly fill out and return all required paper work. 8. Participate in general plant and yard cleanliness and maintenance as directed by supervisor Knowledge /Skills /Abilities/ Experience (Mixer Driver) 1. Possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) Class A or Class B with air brake endorsement 2. Possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) Health Card 3. Satisfactory driving and criminal record 4. Demonstrated ability to follow instructions (oral and written) 5. Must be able to speak, understand, read write English 6.
