Overview

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Green Bay is looking for a motivated individual to join our Thrift Store team as a Utility Worker. This is a 25 hour per week position and it offers paid time off, enrollment in a pension program, and the opportunity to enroll in a voluntary life insurance plan. The ideal candidate would have flexible work hours, ability to lift heavy item such as furniture, and be able to obtain a Fed Med card to drive our donation truck. The Utility Worker will assist with processing and organizing donations, with building and grounds maintenance, maintaining an inventory of donations, and serve as a relief driver when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors, assist with unloading donations and issue receipts.

  • Assist with organization of donations on the floor and in storage.

  • Operate pallet jack and forklift to move heavy items.

  • Train and lead volunteers as directed by store manager.

  • Maintain equipment used; report repairs and/or replacement needs to supervisor.

  • Assist with indoor and outdoor maintenance as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, raking, snow removal, and removing trash.

  • Assist with furniture donation pickups and errands to bank, dump and other Salvation Army facilities.

  • Conforms to all federal, state and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of vehicles.

  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate.

Materials and Equipment: Uses a variety of equipment including a pallet jack, lawn mower, weed-eater, snow blower, and tools. Operate motor vehicle to move among facilities and throughout the community. Operate forklift.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: One year job-related experience is required.

Certifications: Valid Wisconsin driver's license with approval to drive from TSA's insurance carrier. Must obtain forklift certification within six months of employment.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Knowledge of equipment safety rules.

  • Knowledge of requirements and standards related to operating a motor vehicle.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Understand and support the philosophy and spiritual goals of The Salvation Army.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; taste and smell; as well as, stand for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This job is performed indoors in normal room temperature conditions and outdoors. When the duties require being outdoors, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
