Responsible for all aspects for the successful operation of the Red Wing Thrift Store, including the proper receiving and processing of donated materials, properly pricing and displaying of merchandise, assisting customers, and cashiering as directed and scheduled. Supervision of staff and dealing with customer issues in the absence of the store supervisor. This is a full-time regular position with a work week expectation of 40 hours per week with full benefits.

  • Supervisory in the absence of the Store Supervisor assume duties of supervising and directing store staff and handling customer issues Be responsible for daily reports and deposits in the absence or at the direction of the Store Supervisor Customer Service Greet and assist all customers in a polite and professional manner Receiving- Assist donors with unloading donations. Evaluate potential donations for acceptability according to the established guidelines.

    Reject unacceptable donations informing donor of reason item(s) cannot be accepted in a positive and proper manner Sorting Sort donated goods according to salable or not salable and put into proper area to be priced, discarded or sent to Rochester Pricing Price merchandise and clothing according to pricing guidelines Distribution Hang clothing and place merchandise items on the proper racks or shelving on the sales floor Sales Floor Keep sales floor presentable by re-hanging and straightening merchandises as needed Regularly check fitting rooms and place items back on proper rack or return to processing room as needed Cashiering Properly operate the cash register and credit card/check machine accurately entering sales into the proper department, registering the type of payment, and giving the correct amount of change. Properly bag or wrap purchases for the customer Telephone Answer the telephone as needed and accurately answer inquiries or properly record pick-up information Culling Sort through clothing racks and shelves to pull items which have not sold with-in the designated time. Properly dispose of items Safety Report any needed repairs or unsafe conditions to the store supervisor Opening Perform duties to prepare the store to be opened, including placing start funds into the cash register, turning on lights, checking supplies, and unlocking doors Closing Perform duties related to closing the store, including verifying all customers have left, locking the doors, running closing procedures for the register, counting cash register funds and comparing to the "z' tape and placing funds in the safe.

    Shut off lights Reports Prepare daily deposits and reports. Take deposit to the bank as directed Cleaning Assist in vacuuming, sweeping, and other cleaning duties as needed Other duties as assigned


High School Diploma with previous retail supervisory experience or management training preferred with a minimum of six months of employment at a Salvation Army store. Must be able to work with a wide variety of personalities and have good interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, the ability independently and/or in a team setting, computer literate with working knowledge of email, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Possess a positive attitude, works well with others, be trustworthy, especially in confidential matters and be well organized and efficient. Must be available and willing to work some Saturdays as scheduled. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR drivers' qualification.

VIEW JOBS 9/8/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-07T00:00 Overview The thrift store worker is responsible for properly recording customer sales in the cash register utilizing the proper department and payment keys, properly handling payments utilizing proper procedures and equipment, bagging merchandise, and returning proper change. The thrift store worker also provides support to customers and other sales floor staff by supplying sold and hold signs for customers as requested. This is a part time regular position with a work week expectation of 16-24 hours per week. There are two open positions. The first position will work 2:00pm-6:30pm four to five a week and 9am-5pm every other Saturday. The second opening will work every other Saturday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Responsibilities * Greet customers entering store and give direction for locating merchandise if requested• Process saleso Properly record merchandise prices into register utilizing proper department keyso Properly handle payments, processing checks, credit cards, and cash according to established policy o Properly record payments and utilizing proper payment key and return change as requiredo Properly and carefully place purchased merchandise into bags, wrapping glass and breakable items• Maintain sales area in a clean orderly condition• Distribute "hold" and "sold" signs to customers and other staff as needed and requested• Process and maintain voucher rain-checks according to established policy• Request change and supplies from supervisor as needed and according to established policy• Notify supervisor of any customer complaints or problems • Notify supervisor of any dangerous or other unruly conditions or problems as necessaryAdditional Responsibilities• Assist other staff in straightening and organizing clothing and other merchandise when no customers are present• Other duties as assigned by supervisor Qualifications The thrift store worker must be personable, able to work with a wide range of customers and staff under often demanding conditions. They must be able to handle multiple tasks at once. They must be able to lift and move items constantly during the work period. They must have experience or be trainable in customer service and operation of a cash register. Must be able to accurately record sales transactions, receive and accurately record and process payments. They must pass The Salvation Army background check, Safe-from-Harm program, and be bondable. They must be willing and able to work Saturdays and a flexible weekday schedule. Must support the mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
