Job Description Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Relevant experience in a thrift store setting required, experience in a Salvation Army Thrift Store preferred.

Ability to work well with customers and colleagues of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups, respect confidentiality, and ability to work within the ethical and legal parameters of social services. Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.

Must be available and willing to work some Saturdays as scheduled. Must have excellent customer service, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages.

Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps' passenger vans/buses.) Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR driver's qualifications. Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Position Summary The Thrift Store Assistant Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the successful operation of the Red Wing Thrift Store, including the proper receiving and processing of donated materials, properly pricing and displaying of merchandise, assisting customers, and cashiering as directed and scheduled. Supervision of staff and assisting with customer relations in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager. 501 Plum St, Red Wing, MN 55066 $18.00/hour, 40 hours/week Essential Duties Responsibilities This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position.

Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by the Thrift Store Manager or Corps Officers Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind.

Engage all community members (including and not limited to, customers and visitors, etc.) in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, activities, events, and Pathway of Hope. In the absence of the Thrift Store Manager, assume duties of supervising and directing store staff and handling customer issues. Be responsible for daily reports and deposits in the absence of or at the direction of the Store Manager.

Greet and assist all customers in a polite and professional manner. Assist donors with unloading donations. Evaluate potential donations for acceptability according to the established guidelines.

Reject unacceptable donations informing donor of reason item(s) cannot be accepted in a positive and proper manner. Sort donated goods according to salable or not salable and put into proper area to be priced or discarded. Price merchandise and clothing according to pricing guidelines.

Follow distribution procedures by hanging clothing and placing merchandise items on the proper racks or shelving on the sales floor. Keep sales floor presentable by re-hanging and straightening merchandises as needed. Regularly check fitting rooms and place items back on proper rack or return to processing room as needed.

Properly operate the cash register and credit card/check machine accurately entering sales into the proper department, registering the type of payment, and giving the correct amount of change. Properly bag or wrap purchases for the customer. Answer the telephone as needed and accurately respond to inquiries or properly record pick-up information.

Sort through clothing racks and shelves to pull items which have not sold with-in the designated time. Properly dispose of items. Report any needed repairs or unsafe conditions to the Thrift Store Manager in a timely manner.

Perform duties to prepare the store to be opened, including placing start funds into the cash register, turning on lights, checking supplies, and unlocking doors. Perform duties related to closing the store, including verifying all customers have left, locking the doors, running closing procedures for the register, counting cash register funds and comparing to the "z' tape and placing funds in the safe. Shut off lights.

Prepare daily deposits and reports. Take deposit to the bank as directed. Assist in vacuuming, sweeping, and other cleaning duties as needed.

All other duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities will include one of the following areas with cross-training to support the other duties as needed: Processing area:

Make sure items are processed efficiently and priced properly and prepared to move to the sales floor efficiently and effectively. Maintain safe walkways Keep doorways clear including the fire exit. Keep area in front of fire extinguishers open.

Make sure that all processing modules are being followed. Make sure all garbage from donations are removed and discarded properly. Make sure all items are clean, free of garage sale stickers, cat/dog hair, mold/mildew, or stains before they leave the sales floor.

Have all off season items brought up to attic and stored properly. Have all current season items brought down from attic and priced properly and prepared to leave the floor efficiently and effectively. Make sure all essential supplies are stocked.

Keep store manager updated on inventory of supplies. Make sure all staff is maintaining a positive experience when donating. This includes, but not limited to, making sure donation receipts are ready and available, greeting everyone that comes through the door, helping each person that comes in by either directing them where to go with donations or taking donations, making sure all staff is being respectful to donators who may be disappointed that we do not take the items they are wanting to donate.

Maintain and update the "do not take at this time" bulletin board. Make sure that items are not being stashed within the processing room by employees. Keep all food out of processing room Maintain the hanger's storage area.

Manage all the rag out (culling) area and make sure items are being dragged out properly. Sales floor: Monitor cashier area making sure that long lines are avoided if possible.

Make sure all essential supplies are stocked for cash register area.

Make sure all signs are relevant and up to date. Make sure all staff are following modules for the sales floor.

Make sure that items are ragged out each week. Clearance emporium items every 4-6 weeks. Help maintain window displays.

Make sure floor is swept and rugs are vacuumed daily. Keep stairs free of debris and items. Keep isle clear and free from debris.

Make sure items are where they belong and in an orderly fashion to help customers see items easier. Make sure furniture is marked and displayed so that it is easy for customers to move around. Keep frames and pictures organized so that the glass will not break.

Keep medical area organized so it is not hazardous. Keep track of refurbished beds and let store manager updated on totals. Keep toys area organized and picked up.
