The Thompson Learning Community (TLC) is designed to promote the academic success of UNO students receiving the Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship.

TLC provides Thompson Scholars a sequence of common courses, special activities, advisement, and other opportunities to connect with faculty and peers. The TLC Office is a dynamic area with a great deal of student interaction.

The TLC Specialist will serve as an academic and personal resource to students seeking ways to succeed at UNO. The individual will work with first and second year TLC students. The specialist will teach a minimum of 6 sections of US 1020 (TLC First-year Seminar) and/or US 202 (TLC Sophomore Year Seminar)

Additionally, the Specialist will meet with students on academic probation to help them create a plan to be successful.

The Specialist will also additional leadership responsibilities such as co-leading the TLC First Year Peer Mentor program including responsibilities for hiring, training, and leadership development of 24 TLC student leader or a comparable assignment. The specialist will work with students and staff to enhance the community and the overall success of the students through other programmatic needs defined by the Assistant Directors and Director.

This position will initiate, develop and maintain personal contact with qualified prospective students and related public constituencies in Nebraska and assigned out of state territories throughout the recruitment process. The Sr. Admissions Representative, Diversity and Community Outreach is the face and image of the University. This position will act as a member of a team responsible for the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies designed to attract and enroll a diverse population of qualified students. This position will maintain appropriate recruitment, admissions and advising data for students in their assigned territory - including new freshmen, transfer students, and returning/readmitted students. Manage assigned territory with annual recruitment goals in mind. This position is responsible for planning and implementing a diversity recruitment and outreach strategic plan aligned with the goals of the University. Will coordinate recruitment and outreach activities with campus partners, community agencies and schools with diverse populations. The recruiting strategies developed by the Sr. Admissions Representative, Diversity and Community Outreach will require an understanding of the University’s commitment to increasing the number of high ability students and under-represented populations on the UNO campus. Initiate and maintain positive relationships with campus partners, secondary schools, community colleges, four-year institutions, churches and community agencies related to the recruitment of qualified students. The incumbent will partner with on campus offices such as the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Project Achieve, to ensure the students are aware of on campus resources committed to student success. Serve as liaison with and advocate for the participation of alumni and other interested community members in the recruitment process.
