The Thompson Learning Community (TLC) is designed to promote the academic success of UNO students receiving the Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship.

TLC provides Thompson Scholars a sequence of common courses, special activities, advisement, and other opportunities to connect with faculty and peers. The TLC Office is a dynamic area with a great deal of student interaction.

The TLC Specialist will serve as an academic and personal resource to students seeking ways to succeed at UNO. The individual will work with first and second year TLC students. The specialist will teach a minimum of 6 sections of US 1020 (TLC First-year Seminar) and/or US 202 (TLC Sophomore Year Seminar)

Additionally, the Specialist will meet with students on academic probation to help them create a plan to be successful.

The Specialist will also additional leadership responsibilities such as co-leading the TLC First Year Peer Mentor program including responsibilities for hiring, training, and leadership development of 24 TLC student leader or a comparable assignment. The specialist will work with students and staff to enhance the community and the overall success of the students through other programmatic needs defined by the Assistant Directors and Director.

This is a senior-level academic administrative position with responsibility for supporting, promoting and growing research and creative activities in collaboration and partnership with campus leadership and partner institutions. Specific responsibilities include leading the development of a campus-wide research and creative activity strategic plan; management of the Office of Research and Creative Activity; oversight of campus research compliance and development of research-related policies; establishing and maintaining partnerships with extramural sponsors; oversight of internal seed-grant programs; representation on University system and statewide research bodies; and stewardship of University intellectual property. As a Carnegie Doctoral Research University, UNO engages in collaborative, cutting-edge, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary projects that integrate research, teaching and service. The Interim Associate Vice Chancellor will acknowledge and recognize all types of research and creative activity consistent with UNO’s mission as a metropolitan university and its Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. The position collaborates with a diverse group of university and community partners and serves as a member of the University of Nebraska Federal Team, the UNeMeD Board of Directors (ex officio), and the Board of Directors of the National Strategic Research Institute. The Associate Vice Chancellor serves as UNO’s chief research officer, reports directly to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and Office of Academic Affairs senior leadership team.
